Wireless adapter question

Recommended Posts

Quick question for you all. I am moving my office to a back room at my house, And dont wish to run 50 plus feet of network cable to the room. I do have wireless in the house, was just wondering what the best adapter to use is? I ask because I have never had to use one yet myself. I go on newegg and see network cards and usb type adapters, which is best and which do you all recommend? thx

You're welcome! Please let us know how it goes! it all depends on what's better for you... USB is easier to mess with so I recommend that....

Just my 2 cents if you have a PCI slot and want a good connection find a card that has 2 or 3 antanna conections that will accept a remote antenna that way you can place it where you get the best signal.

Like these, may not be the best price just providing a example.

I would run the wire if me! Always go with the wire, unless there is just no other choice. Like not your house and can not poke holes in the walls, don't have access to area like (basement or attic) to be able to run the wire.

If physically capable of running the wire - then RUN THE WIRE!! Unless the device is mobile, or does not have a ethernet inteface, and one can not be added there is no good reason to go with wireless.

Use a powerline adapter before you use wireless - that is just my take on it. Wireless is great for your tablet/laptop or phone, but if the device is stationary it should be on a wire - period.

if this apartment was my own id have laid cable, deffo, wifi n is allright but i miss the speedy big transfers to/from my nas, so much so i run a cat6 to hallway router when downloading big files. Im with Budman on this one, if its doable, do it without even thinking twice, youll thank him/us when you do.

You could try Netgear 500Mbps Mini Powerline Twin Pack Ethernet Adapters.

However I did use it and homegroup I could not get to work via it.

If homegroup would work or I could have got it to work would had been great.

Get the kit from amazon, you can at least return it for a full refund without hassle before 30 days is up.
