How can I make Windows Xp start faster

Recommended Posts

I've installed all the updates and all patches, i've made all the posible tweaks to make windows XP faster (Via 684x, PIII 800,256 MB Ram 133,GF3 Ti, ATA 66 Hdd'z). All the drivers are up -to-date and it still boots in aprox. 40 sec. Too much. I think there are some old drivers that windows it is loading. It stays aprox 10 sec without any hdd action after it apears the boot logo. Can there anyoane help.

90% chance it's your network card.:)

try removing it and see if makes any difference.

if it's your nic, i don't think there's anything you can do about it...maybe try differnt slots, disable pnp, differnt card?

It's probably because your network card is going out and trying to acquire a new IP every time you bootup. I had this problem w/ PPPoE ADSL service, when I switched to always on cable that uses DHCP the problem stopped.

  • 2 weeks later...

1. use fixed IP address, u can set it manully.

2.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSet

ControlSession ManagerMemory anagementPrefetchParameters

you can find "EnablePrefetcher", it's default value is set to 3, you can change it to 1,4 or 5, and I think the 5 is better, then reboot your computer.
