siah1214
It's like picking between 2 turds. Get a Nexus 7 or a Kindle fire if you can't afford a surface, but there's no way those will give you a good experience.

All you can really do is browse around Craigslist or Ebay and see what you can find. ;)
AJerman
No, no, no, no, no, no, no! The only budget tablet you should be using is the Nexus 7. Anything more budget than that is likely garbage. I can't tell you how many cheap POS Android tablets there are out there, and they always become popular around Christmas time. Do yourself a HUGE HUGE favor and avoid these at all costs. If you want a tablet, save up for a Nexus 7. Both of these tablets are terrible. Have screen resolutions equal to the low end of smartphones now, but at 7" rather than 4.x". Both have 512 MB of RAM, when phones are coming with 1 GB, and 1 GB is a pretty decent minimum for modern tablets (if you want any multitasking at all). Neither will have access to the Play Store. Not to mention they are both likely made out of very cheap plastic and likely very bulky compared to other tablets like the Nexus 7.

I have an iPad 2, but I've wanted a Nexus 7 since they came out. I just can't justify the cost for something I don't need right now. I need to try to trade someone my iPad 2 for a Nexus 7! Noir Angel
Whilst Android 4.0 / 4.1 on 512 MB of ram is doable, on a tablet it won't be a lot of fun. Spend a bit extra and get a Nexus 7, it's an amazing tablet for the price (And pay the Microsoft shills no heed, the Surface is not really any better)

Noir Angel
I have a Samsung Galaxy S with 512 MB of ram running Android 4.1 It works fine for a low resolution smartphone but I can imagine tablet apps would tax it a bit more. As I said it can happen, it just won't perform brilliantly.

moloko
If you want this price go with a Refurb Nook Color or Nook Tablet and put CM7 or CM10 on it and have android and all the goodies it comes with. It cost me 119 USD for the NC and it has lasted me about a year and still perfect.
chaos mage
(And pay the Microsoft shills no heed, the Surface is not really any better) There are elements of it that are better, and those that are worse. Just like iPad and Playbook and whatever else is in this grand tablet universe of ours. I wouldn't consider it worthwhile right now but I definitely plan to get one in the future.
