Munir
Anyone know how to remove the ads in Messenger 4.6 without Plus!? Cause I really hate the Plus Extention, so I was just wondering? If anyone know how to I'd really appreciate it.
Chism
Until you get an answer you can drag it down so that the ad is hidden under the taskbar. That's what I do.

Munir
I don't know, I just don't like it. Plus adds too many features that I just don't use. I just want the basic Messenger without the stupid ads. Yeah, I guess I can go back to 4.5, if I can find it anywhere, as we all know, it's kinda hard to find, but I really wanna keep 4.6, just without the damn ads. lazydesert
i guess i dont notice the plus being there... i like that it logs chats, so you can go back later if you forgot some information or not.. thats all i use it for and ad removal :)
Munir
Yeah, I understand how those features can be useful, but I just can't stand Plus! menu beside Help, and how it almost forces you to have a personalized message when all I wanna do is click on Away and be Away. I guess I'm just picky, but I'm sure a lot of people would be interested to know a way to remove those ads without having to install other programs. lazydesert
yeah, i uderstand that.. that away system is pretty annoying..
Munir
Yeah, it's really annoying for me. I've searched high and low for a tweak to get rid of the ads, but I can't find anything that doesn't lead to Plus, so I don't know.
Roger H. Veteran Posted January 17, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 17, 2002 ouch! hehe.. i thought i was picky... i don't think there's anything that removes it other than plus. I still don't see what the big deal is though.. you never even usually see the MSN main window being that it's always minimized to the tray so who cares if theres a few lil words beside help... damn.. i wouldn't wanna be your girlfriend.. LOL anyways.. i think i might have MSN 4.5 still somewhere on my PC.. nope i don't but just uninstall messenger (if you can figure out how to do it) then use windows update or the lil reminder you get that your version is out of date and it'll give you version 4.5 and not 4.6. Simple enough or are you gonna be picky about that too? :) Just kiddin... I guess i'm the only weirdo here but i thought you can just click the top beside your name and choose from the normal messages.. who said you HAVE to personalize it! Munir
I know, I'm picky, but you're idea sounds good though, that's if I can figure out how to uninstall it. I think I saw somewhere that there's a way to do it, so I'll give it a try. And I think windows update now has 4.6 on it, so that might mean the reminder might also auto-update an old version to 4.6. But there's no harm in trying.
Roger H. Veteran Posted January 17, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 17, 2002 nope... none of them upgrade to 4.6, i was using 4.5 this morning and had to go to MSN site to get the 4.6 update cuz it didn't alert me or anything about a newer version or nothing... so just uninstall it or find it on any site since it's not warez.. it's free so it can't be warez
Munir
Alright, that's good to hear. But apperently, I can't remember where I saw how to uninstall messenger, the easiest thing would be to just find 4.5, but from where?
Morphos
found this on another post. IT WORKS. run the plus extension installation. close messenger. run messenger in 2000 compatability. click the now available remove ads checkbox. close messenger. run it without compatability. done. morphos
