Redmondian
Here's what on the Sims 2 preview cd that's in Makin'Magic. thanks to raye1 from the Sims BBS for this. Screen Grabs is a set of screenshots that we have already seen. It really is cool to see the creators of the game and see the inside of maxis and how making the game has affected their lives. Oh and one more thing. They interviewed normal players like you and I (all or most of them I might add, were over 20!!) . It was cool to see how the game affects their real lives and how they look at life in general since playing the game.
Redmondian
Technical and Maxis facts about the Sims2 When will the game be for sale? In every preview it says 'early 2004'. Most people believe it will be February. Note that this is the release date for America. For Europe and the rest of the world, it may be released 1 or 2 months later. Will there be a demo of the game? No there will be no demo. What are the System requirements? According to Maxis: Operating System: Windows 98, 2000, ME, or XP. Memory requirements: At least 128MB for Windows 98, 2000, or ME or 256MB for Windows XP. CPU and Graphic cards requirements: A CPU of 1.5Ghz or faster if you have no graphic cards, or another kind of graphic acceleration. A CPU of 600Mhz or faster if you have a 3D graphic card with Geforce or Radeon in the name. Screen resolution: The game will run in 800x600, 1024x768, and higher resolutions. Will there be expansion packs? According to Maxis there will be many expansion packs. What will the game be rated? Maxis will be aiming for a 'teen' rating. Can I import my old Sims into Sims 2? No you can't. Will the Sims 2 be an online game? No, but there will be a big online community where you can swap families, download new items and much more. When will Create-A-Sim be available? November. There is no specific date but it is likely that it will be part of simday. So the soonest will be on November 7 and the latest will be November 28. Will there be other tools, like to make skins and floors and stuff? Yes there will be, although no date for that has been given. According to Maxis, it should be easy to make these, but they will first focus on textures. You can also use Simcity 4 to change the sims 2 neighbourhood. Will there be downloads when the game is released? It may take some time before we see new unique objects because 3D objects are more difficult to create. However it is very likely that there will be many floors, walls, recolors and skins available because that's not necessarily a 3D thing and easy to create. Do I have to learn Maya (a 3D creation program) to create objects for the game? Not necessarily, there may be other tools for that. According to Maxis you can make 'new' objects with just a basic paint program. With Maya however you can make some truly unique and original objects. Redmondian
Neighborhood and house facts How many lots will there be in the Neighbourhood? There will be 50 lots. So it's like the unleashed neighbourhood? No, first of all you can change the look of the neighbourhood by using Simcity 4. And since you can choose how big each lot can be, the neigbourhood grows and changes over time. Will there be a community buildings? Yes there will be shops to buy clothes and food. Will there be a basement and attic? There will be no basement but there will be an attic. How many floors can you build? You can build 3 floors high but if you count the walkable attic, it's 4. Can you place objects on diagonal walls? You can place doors and windows on diagonal walls. Objects like paintings, closets, tables, etc. have not been confirmed. How can you view the house in the Sims 2? The Sims 2 is now in 3D. that means you can zoom in, zoom out, and rotate the camera freely at will. How many objects will there be? The game will ship with 500 objects. That's more than 3 times as much as what the Sims 1 shipped with. And there will be simdays where Maxis will give some new objects as well. Will there be objects from the Sims 1 and its expansions? Yes, several Sims 1 objects will be in the Sims 2. Is there anything else special about the furniture? In the Sims 1, only tv's, pc's, sinks and showers could be broken, now almost all the furniture can age and brake down to some degree. I heard something about a decorating mode. What is this? In the decorating mode, you can give several of your furniture the same look. It works like this: You can import textures and patterns that you can then apply directly to the objects in the game. For example, you can purchase a couch and then customize it to match your decor by changing its color at the click of a button. You can even cover it in a rose pattern if you want. What are some of the new house building options? - You can now build modular stairways with curves. - You can construct decks - You can have foundations on uneven ground. - You can build terraces over murmuring brooks, while steps help with height difference outdoors. Redmondian
Lifestages facts What are the lifestages? Baby, toddler, kid, teenager, adult and elderly. How long is each lifestage? Each stage lasts only a limited number of game hours. The toddler period will be relatively short, while the eventful adult years will last the longest. Can I turn off the lifecycle? In many previews it has been said that you can. Although it hasn't officially been said by Maxis, it is very likely that you can turn it off. Will they grow older when I play another family? No. While you're controlling one family, time stands still in the other houses. Do kids have skills and if so, can they work on them? Yes they can. Kids can also use skill objects that adults get as reward when he or she has advanced in their jobs. Can I create babies in CAS and control them in the game? No and no. Is the birth of a baby different then in the Sims 1? Yes. When a mother gets pregnant, her belly will grow in size as time progresses, when eventually she is ready to give birth, an ambulance will arrive to get her to the hospital. Are there weddings, divorces and funerals? Yes to all. Can teens 'play'? No, they cannot. But they can kiss and cuddle. Do sims know the difference between friends and family? Yes. Sims will recognize members of their own family and react accordingly. There will be no incest for example (but cousins can marry eachother). Can you follow your sims to work? No. Work is the same as Sims 1, although they now have weekends or other days free. How many careers are there? For the adults there are 18 careers with 10 jobs each. Teenagers and elders have 7 careers with 3 jobs each. Anything more about elders? Upon retirement, they receive a pension. Elders can have passionate relationships with the younger generation (adults). An elderly man can still father children, while female sims can only have kids in the adult phase. After elders die, they leave behind an inheritance. Surviving kin squabble over this at his death bed, with a lawyer present. This inheritance is shared out according to the nature of the relationships the person had before they died. Can teenagers have affairs with adults? No. Teenagers can have romantic relationships only with another teen. If one becomes an adult, the other has to age up before resuming their romantic relationship. Will kids act and look like their parents? The sims' kids will look and act like a mix of their mother and father. There's also a random element. Has every lifestage the same amount of motives? No. Motives will be based upon your age range. So toddlers won't have nearly as many motives as older Sims. And what about the needs? The rate at which the sims' needs must be satisfied will change with age. Senior citizens need less sleep, but more comfort. Teenagers suffer violent mood swings, need social contact and are constantly hungry.
Redmondian
Sims Life Facts What's this lifescore I keep hearing about? You can see it as something that tells the status of a Sim. The life status bar will tell if he's married, happy, achieving the career he wants, whether he feels his life is fulfilling, and it'll even keep track of milestones accomplished in the Sim's life (milestones like a baby's first walks, a teenagers first kiss, getting married, etc.). The entire thing is scenario based, but the scenarios are naturally occurring, so it's not like a jarring mission structure. Certain life scores unlock bonus social interactions. The life score also influences how far a sim progresses in certain careers and how fast certain needs have to be met. In a way the life score is like a sim's memory. How does this memory work? Memories will affect their behavior. For example if child sims burn themselves with the oven, the trauma might affect them to the extent that, as adults, they'll avoid getting anywhere near an oven entirely. It's possible that a Sim who's neglected and not loved will find it hard to form relationships later on in the game. Will sims still make a jump spin to change their clothes? Yes that is unchanged. Will they still speak simlish? Yes they will. Can sims be gay like in the Sims 1? Yes they can. Are sims more realistic? Yes. They are moving about in a more lifelike manner and have realistic facial expressions. When sims are mad, happy, sad, afraid, jealous, or whatever else, you'll be able to read it in their faces. They have actual teeth, variable eye colors and blinking eyelids. Their hair now moves as a result of their motion or the wind, and even their clothing can move independently of their bodies. Have their motives changed? Yes. The "social" motive has been broken up into "family" and "friends," A "mind" and a "thirst" motive has been added as well. Can you explain the 'mind' motive? The mind bar will go into the red if a sim is stressed or mentally exhausted. Meditating on the yoga mat helps. Listening to good music will improve mind as well. Will their body shape change over time? Yes, Sims who exercise will stay fit and trim, when they don't, they get fat. Can sims do do more things simultaniously? Yes. For example sit in your bed eating potato chips, watching TV. Do sims still have a free will? Yes. You can just let the game run and they will choose autonomously and do things, or you can take charge and direct your Sims. Can sims mary NPC's? Yes you can mary the maid, firefighter and burglar. Do sims have a sense of smell? Yes, they can smell other sims. What are some of the fun activities that sims can do? Play mini-golf, darts, chess, karaoke, play videogames, paint, play with a dollhouse, watch tv, dance to the radio, using a hottub, watch the sky/neighbours with a telescope, read a book, juggle. oo420oo
Sims was fun for a while but it got too cumbersome when your character was promoted to a high level. You do all this work making friends and getting promotions only to find out theres just not enough time in a day to keep up the friends/social thing. Too much micromanagement at the higher levels. Still an excellent game.
