is there any way to turn off the auto player switch in fifa 2004?

anyone?

i don't like moving a guy one way, only to have the cpu switch me to a different guy, and then i start making him move the wrong way cuz i thought i was controlling the other guy...

That's a major turnoff. :(

I've heard of Winning Eleven's "greatness" before but haven't been able to find it in stores. I guess it's not as advertised as Fifa 2004. I'll try out the demo and see how it feels.

My favorite game thus far has been Internation Superstar Soccer (98, I think) for SNES. I played it for N64 and it was cool too.

I agree with that one guy Playing soccer in real life > playing soccer in cpu/ps2

PS, is there a winning eleven/PES for PS2?

yer, it is well cool! I love that game.

Too bad they did not bring back the thing where you can edit players.. that would have been good.. to create your own players and teams perhaps..

I will try and see if I can get it online but having problems with all this stuff you need to get for ps2 online.

Strategy I can recommend for any fifa players are to try out all the various team formations, they are well worth testing out. Some work so much better than standard 4-4-2

you can use that advanced passing, by pressing L2 i think mate .. it should bring numbers above their heads, and u press R2 to change the player :happy:if this dont work e-mail me :p

I just played this game, and I'm a little disappointed. I've played Fifa 99, International Superstar Soccer 64, and Winning Eleven or Internation superstar soccer for ps2, and this game sucks compared to those. It's just too slow, the controls are terrible, and you can't control your passes very well. I would really like the option to configure the controls. Also, there's times when there are large shadows on the field from the stadium, I assume, but the problem is... you can't see anything! I can't see where the out of bounds is many times.. I'll play a few more games and see how it is... One thing I do like are the many teams and players available and the commentary.

2004 is crap!

Just a simple port from PS2 without any effort to optimise it for PC.

You cannot change controls,

no direct ip multiplay,

squad screen only shows 9 players because ps2 resolution cannot show more, so you have to scroll,

Menus not optimised for Mouse control,

PS2 GFX,

slow gameplay,

do i need to go on, so you see that it is a plain ps2 port ?

The years before they always did it the other way round, ported from PC to ps2 and Xbox.

I'm disappointed :(

go watch a uk football match then and you'll see fifa is slow

Have you played Fifa 2004 yet? Probably not, so how can you say that it is normal that it is slow if you don't know how slow it is!?

The controls are terrible and so hard to do a good through ball in this game. I'll wait for Pro Evolution Soccer which comes out in 2 weeks, I heard.

edit: DOH! The game comes out in February. That sucks! I'll have to look for the leaked demo somewhere... somewhere over the rainbow :)

I got it on the Cube and it rocks! It took some getting used to but I love it.

I've had it a week and have already taken my team, Aston Villa, to the Premiership title with Professional setting in a career game. It wasn't that easy but can be done with a team as lowly as mine LOL

The trick I found is to try and play like a real team would... build from the back, get some width, set your runners off.... hey presto GOOOOAALLLLL.

The practice mode really is a great feature and lets ya get used to controlling 2 players independently.

I love it but as with the beautiful game you are never gonna convince some: my mate swears by Winning 11 but I come back to 2004 every time.

As for the comment about it being slow, well I totally disagree: football ain't pinball. The game can be made to appear faster by use of the zoom and camera choice though if you so wish.

EDIT: @ Adem... good to see there's a lover of the true game in egg chasing country! I'm a Brummie exiled working in Wigan BTW.

With every new year that a new FIFA version gets put out, EA Sports adds one feature and takes away five. This is truly sad, from what i have heard from many ppl that have played the PC version, you cant configure ur gamepads in-game, you cant change the video settings except the res., gone is the weather option, the stadiums look small, cant save replays. From the demo that i played, FIFA 2004 is an improvement over 2003, but not worthy of 50 bucks at all. The players' head are bigger than their body, to the point its scary, the texture used on players' faces make it seem like they are suffering from some weird skin desease, the crown still looks like cardboard cutouts (the NHL game by EA sports has way better crowns). You can now only play online through the EA system, gone are the days of direct-ip play. The game feels less scripted, than the 2002 version but they are still times where the acts weird, and plain stupid. There still annoying clipping on the game, i mean u see players go through the fraeking post after a ball. After all is said and done, i believe EA sports doesnt give the FIFA franchise the same ammount of resources and perhaps money funds as say Maddenn or NBA live, pretty sad actually been that football (notice the name of the sport) is the #1 sport in the world and FIFA games, although they may have the biggest player rosters compare to other football games, they truly lack in features and gameplay.

For PC users and those that were talking about not being able to change your controls within the game, the next patch will resolve this.

- Added Multiplayer (Direct IP and Local Area Network) in Game Modes

- Added Controller Settings in Options (allowing you to customise controls)

- Added Detail Level in Advanced Settings

- Added Save Replay in Instant Replay

- Fixed loss of mouse control in Practice Pause Menu

- Fixed EASO localization on the Brazilian Portuguese build

Notes:

- Direct IP supports 2 PC's, 4 users max per PC

- LAN supports up to 4 PC's, 2 users max per PC

- To remap a controller on the Controller Settings screen, click with the mouse on the keys/buttons you want to change

- Use the Detail Level option to fine tune the performance of the game with your PC - a lower level will improve the speed, a higher level will increase the graphical quality

- Saved replays can be loaded from the Save/Load screen

It should be out tomorrow or Thursday.
