Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy producer Eric Fellner has confirmed that a follow-up to the movie is still in the works.

The team behind the 2011 hit are planning to adapt John le Carre's novel Smiley's People as a sequel to the film, but there has not been a status update on the project for almost a year.

"We are working on another one. [Producer] Tim Bevan is putting it together as we speak with [screenwriter] Peter Straughan and [director] Tomas Alfredson, so yes it's in development," Fellner told Collider.

"Tinker did unbelievably well and it didn't cost hardly anything? But things take time. Tim is passionate about making sure we do another one."

Le Carre wrote eight books featuring the George Smiley character, who was played by Gary Oldman in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Smiley's People is the third entry in the series.

The storyline sees MI6 agent Smiley called out of retirement to investigate the death of one of his old colleagues.

wish someone would explain the movie title to me, the tinker tailor soldier spy thing made no sense to me, why is it called that?

Maybe this helps:

The Mystery of ?Tinker, Tailor??

In TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY, Control (John Hurt) informs George Smiley (Gary Oldman) about a possible mole at the heart of the Circus, the code name for the British Intelligence Service. To highlight possible suspects, Control gives them code names -- ?Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.? Smiley later tapes the photos of the possible suspects to chess pieces, a gesture that turns out to be more resonant with the film?s title poem than one might imagine. The simple children's nursery rhyme ?Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor? has a long cultural history that connects it to the game of chess, among other things.

The rhyme, which lists a series of professions, goes all the way back to a 12th century treatise by the Dominican monk Jacopo de Cessolis.
