WinXP Network/Files Solved..!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys/gals,

You'll never guess what...okay so you read the subject title. Basically I've been so annoyed that I couldn't get "File Sharing" on my WinXP network working. I mean "Internet Sharing" was easy, so this is how I got "File Sharing" to work 100% (and fast too).

Righty then, this will only work if you have "Norton Personal Firewall 2002" installed, as this software is the one that causes the problems. And I love this program so I worked with it.

- Once all network cards are installed etc. etc. etc.

- And you've already used the wizards to "Share Internet/Files" automatically by selecting the right connections etc. etc. etc.

- Right, open "Personal Firewall 2002" (the globe at bottom right of screen by clock).

- Make sure you've clicked the "Personal Firewall" tab.

- Click on "Internet Zone Control".

- In the "Trusted" area, click on "Wizard".

- Click "Next" then "Finish".

- And if successful you will now see an "IP and Mask" addresses give you access to the network you are connected to.

- If it didn't work, then leave the computer for a while searching through the net and give it time...then try again.

- REBOOT (to be on the safe side).

- You may not get in straight away because sometimes it takes time to get used to the network (honest).

P.S.

You will have to do this on "all" the computers you want working. This worked for me on 4 seperate occasions without a problem.

Hope this helps for all of you :rambo:

no offense but... DUH, you always want computers on your lan to be trusted, I mean, with a home lan in most cases they're right next to you, or in the next room... I think you can trust the people you live with.... :cheeky:

i've 2 computers connected (crossover) @home. the server is with xp pro and the client with 98se. the first time i configured this small network everything went fine. but, after i rebooted the computer, i had no longer access to files and printer. although client still is detected by xp pro and can access internet.. why can't i access files and printer? i mean, the first time worked 100%. thought it was the firewall, but no.. already set permissions, guest is on, etc etc. even went to map network drive and created Z: to access client computer. but happens the same: first time ok, second time.. crashes (not responding)... can someone help? (sorry for my bad english).

:(
