LCDs and Gaming

Recommended Posts

Hey dudes.

I'm planing to buy a Viewsonic VA720 17" LCD (0.26mm) and I just wonder how games look on LCD's? I'm not a gamer at all, but i do play some once in a while, I just wondering if games won't be too crappy on flat panels.

Thanks a lot.

I play lots of games and never had any problems since I got my LCD screen a year ago. The argument about response time isn't valid anymore imho, since almost all modern LCD screens are at 20ms or less.

Right on. I agree and concur -- never had any issues with the three of mine. All games, FPS's, AoM, etc., all run great and look the sharpest they ever did.

LCDs are just too slow for gaming. The only one that really is worth buying, might be the Hitachi CML175.. or CML174(without speakers) ... they are almost twice as fast are regular LCDs. You must also use DVI to get a clear picture. But too bad they make them only in 17' ... might have to wait till they have larger once...

The one good thing about LCD's is that a 17" is really only an inch smaller than a 19" crt. The measure CRT's including the frame but LCD measures are only the actualy screen. So saying that you need something larger than a 17" LCD is a little exxagerated. If you have a 17" CRT, a 17" LCD is actually bigger in regards to viewing area.

1) New LCD's are AWESOME for gaming.

2) Viewsonic LCD's are generally too dark and not vibrant.

3) Samsung LCD's are outstanding -- literally every model is awesome (my 3 17" Dell's are Samsung-made).

Yeah, I was just looking through different LCD past few days, I kind of moved away from Viewsonic... I read some reviews and all and I think samsungs are the best on the market so far. What is the good refresh rate for samsung LCD (concerning games and such).. i found one with 26ms, is that too much?

I just bought a Samsung 213t LCD monitor. I'm quite impressed with the quality of the display. While it isn't as good as my old CRT was for gaming and DVDs, it is still substantially better than earlier LCDs were. As long as you're not playing an incredibly fast paced game, you won't have any problems with one of the more recent LCDs.

shoot, sorry I ment responce rate 26mm, refresh rates don't really apply to LCDs anyway. I think I set my mind on Samsung 172B... it looks pretty good and got a good review on it. Click Here For Review
