Wendy's franchisee slashes worker hours to sidestep ObamaCare

Recommended Posts

I have a niece that is a nurse and she says the same thing. She says get ready for healthcare to not only go out the roof fiscally, but the redundancy of procedures is going to be crazy. Why can't the government just stay out of things?

Has nothing to do with Obamacare.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that inbetween the government and you are health insurance companies.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that the country with the highest obesity and health issues is the country against universal health care?

I thought the leftests would be happy about this. They always brag about how their unions shortened the work week to 40 hours and now Obamacare has effectively reduced it to 30. They should be so proud of themselves.

They also brag about how they got benefits from the same employers, insurance, vacations, sick days, raises. If your going to try to start something, add the entire picture in please. I love the IBEW, and I am a business owner.

No, your not. What I fail to understand is why people put money before the well being of another human. Most people wont even spit on you if your on fire. What has happened in the past 50 years that made the US that bad? Anymore its all about money, and how much you can squeeze someone out of it before they pop.

TITLE CHANGE NEEDED:

"Wendy's slashes worker hours to be cheap asses for profit margins using Obamacare as an excuse."

Fact is, they dropped this insanity. But they PROPOSED the insanity in the first place.

The US used to have a 91% top marginal tax rate.

A common response is "Well no one ever paid it!". However, what most people don't seem to realize is that that's exactly the point.

In economics, there's a concept called "utility". When you make excessive profit and salaries more expensive, you encourage doing other things with that money, like reinvesting.

If, after a certain income level, it costs me $3 in taxes just to take home $1, but I could reinvest effectively tax free, then the choice of what I'm going to do with my money might change.

I'm sorry... I work hard as hell right now for essentially nothing. I pay $250 a month for health insurance. Pretty damn good health insurance at that. Why should my taxes be higher for some schmuck who doesn't have a job, and lives on welfare, so they can get health insurance?

I'm sorry... even if you grew up in a ghetto, and you lived on your own since you were 8, it's still your choice to live in a gang, or end up in a hospital high on pcp, crack and meth, or actually attempt an education and end up with money and a job and sufficient healthcare.

People feel like they're owed things. No, you're not. Unfortunately, Obama is acting like and essentially telling us that we are. If you make no attempt at being anything and just expect to live off of handouts that other people provide you, then you deserve nothing.

Granted, I'll help people no matter what. It's why I want to become a doctor. I'll provide the same treatment no matter what... if you have insurance or if you don't. I just don't feel like I should have to pay for someone else because fo their laziness, when I already pay for myself.

The point is that, if done right, you'd be paying far less than now whilst still helping the poor and getting good health care.

In the UK, we pay about 2.5% of our salary for national insurance. That covers health care and state pension.

But that derives from the fact that

1. The person wants to reinvest the money to be tax-free.

2. The person knows how to reinvest the money.

3. The person wants to stay in the country.

All of them are not really good options, because people don't work for the government in capitalism... They mainly work for themselves. That's what drives the economy. Without this driver, hard-working people vanish.

Useless.

I am a leftist and I think it is the best example of why the US system where the employer pays for the employees healthcare sucks giant donkey balls. You know, this whole fiasco could have been avoided had they gone for taut law reform and a single payer healthcare system. Why the hell should I as the employer pay for my employee's healthcare?

So you're a leftist as long as it does not affect you?

Or you're a leftist because you like Obama? In this case, you would be more like centrist.

I agree. Employers should not be required to pay anything except a decent wage/salary.

Individuals should have more control in their lives.

It's been a traditional thing for employees to carry healthcare insurance for employees. My employer offers healthcare for me and my wife's employer does the same.I suspect that employers that offer many low paying jobs will not offer healthcare insurance to save money in the future.

It affects both employer and employee - a small operator has a huge cost when it comes to employee's real cost per hour and the employee ends up getting an over priced under performing health care package that doesn't really cover them - both employer and employee are equally screwed.

I'm a 'leftist' in the US context because I believe that there are certain things that should be funded through taxes such as health care, social welfare, education etc. which is why I'm considered on the left.

In that case, stop driving on the road that my taxes pay, stop using public transportation that my taxes pay, stop doing anythign that my taxes pay for. God forbid you have to drop .25 more cents fo reveryone to have some form of health coverage. I bet you would suck as a doctor also, you say you would help anyone out even if they couldnt pay, but whatever. You would be the same way and turn them out the door regardless.

Have you driven on the roads in New Jersey??? They aren't even worth $.25. I drive into NYC all the time... For $22 each time. Where is my tax money going? Obviously not to repair the roads, tunnels or bridges. I've had a pothole at the beginning of my street for 5 years now that will even dent a rim on an SUV. An email goes out weekly to get it fixed, and has gone out weekly for almost 3 years. Even then, highway repairs almost always go over budget and take longer than expected. the highway by my house was rebuilt starting in 2000... estimated completion... 2002... actual completion... 2004 and 25 million over budget. great use of my taxes... right? Oh, I don't use public transportation... I drive. If I'm in Manhattan... I walk. Subways are disgusting.

Health coverage should be left exactly where it is. The government always messes things up when it gets in the way. Socialism and leftist views are bad... Very bad. Smaller government is better.

In my residency I'd do that. You have to follow directions, it's not your practice. I would also stop to help someone if they just collapsed in the middle of a shopping center and i were there... However, relating to my own future practice... No healthcare or cash to pay? Get out.

Not just the highest obesity rate but the highest rates of teen pregnancy and STD infections. We also have more young people dying before age 50 than any other industrialized nation as well but hey, what does all matter when you can't even have a rational discourse about gun control without some people foaming at the mouth?

The amount a doctor gets paid from a visit from health insurance right now sucks. An $120 visit gets paid $40. Most doctors only charge those without health insurance $60. It's still more than with health insurance. You do realize, that with this new "wonderful" Obamacare, this number will drop to something like $15?

We just had a story on the local news were a local employer of about 100 full time employees have decided to move all of their 100 employees to 28 hours a week, and to part time status for this same reason. I suspect this is just the tip of the iceberg.
