It's the nice thing to do. Think about it. Sure he could just convert icons all day long without permission. Would he be sued? Probably not. Most people aren't going to court over an icon set or wallpaper. (except for those French b@st@rds that ripped almost everyone in the skinning community...) Most artists enjoy people redistributing their work, with proper credit. Looks like the creator of Block OS even wants the new PC format when Dazzla is finished for his own collection. Artists like Mike at MMicons who have not given their permission to convert to the Windows format are really hurting nobody but themselves in terms of popularity and portfolio. Mac OS's are not the end all of computers. These aren't mac Icons I'm porting, these are windows icons I'm totally remaking. The original format was 32 x 32 at 256 colors. I am totally remaking them, redrawing then in photoshop. Not one pixel of the originals will be used so does that still mean I need permission? Guest deadzombie
You still need permission if the final content is a copy of the original, regardless of how it was made. It's the same as if I took apart a BMW, duplicated all of it's parts from scratch, then sold the new cars under a different name. Different laws violated, same principle. I'd lose everything to BMW. BTW; Has anyone recieved a response other than [ Im getting a new connection soon!! Hope to be online 1/2-02... Best Regards, Mikkel Madsen ] when asking for permission to convert his icons to Windows Xp format? Just curious.
