Those rumours about WinXP not working if you have Updates

Recommended Posts

Well, we should do something about these rumours...If anyone wants to, we can try it out for ourselves, now we just have to find someone with that version of XP :D

Post your findings somewhere, I'm sick of listening to all these 'rumours' of 'oh this, oh that' ...

Update your XP and see what happens...If it won't work, alright, lesson learned..and POST BACK HERE so we don't make the same mistake :p

OMFG! i updated yesterday and my computer would crash every like 10minutes. Blue screen! something about pagefault in non paged area and i8lxdnt5.dll. had to sys restore to get my comp working again. i think it was the update but maybe it was something else. oh well that was my experience. i am not going to install winupdate again to check if it was the cause of my problems. good luck.

Hmmm... everyone seems to make a joke out of this... but dang I think my system just got hacked or something... but instead of blue screen or something... I got a white blank screen... saw one application running but could not see it in the process task... hit restart so quick... damn... hope it's not uncle bill...

This is as stupid as it gets, RUN THE UPDATE and let it be, if anyone says that ther system crashed etc. its because they made it crash not the update. Ive been using that version of xp since october 2001 and not 1 problem since. I get every update without issue. The only prob. I have faced is with that version of office xp and sp1.

"That" copy of XP has helped me sell at least a dozen legitimate versions to customers. (justification to follow)

If I had paid for a copy that I had to worry about re-activating every few days because my system changes faster than my wife at a clothing sale, I would still be using 2000. I would be too angry at the imposition and spread as much hatred for MS as I could.

My point is that if I didn't have a chance to use it and give it a decent "try" then I would be hesitant about convincing customers to upgrade. I'm able to test drivers and new software and the updates too! Then I have an easier time helping others make an educated decision on which OS is for them.

btw.... I've paid for more copies of dos and windows then I can count. When does it end?

on another rant.....

I paid for Winamp, 3 weeks later, it was free.

I paid for Eudora, later, free

I paid for Getright, spyware

The list is long and I'm a slow typer so what I'm trying to say is, "paying for software is hazardous to your health"

I've stayed away from those updates after having numerous problem with them I have norton internet security so why bother with the security updates also it may depend on what system your running I'm using visiontec 15.70 signed drivers and haven't had a crash on video so far

Are you using a GeForce card with Detonators 23.11? Those caused me maaaaany problems, I step back to 21.88 and everything worked again.

Also, if you have a via chipset try to install the 4in1 drivers, the latest release is 4.37.

On anothere note: the update for winXP, you know the one that is only to upgrade to to install from scratch, Well i think it Su;)

I've done updates and everything is fine.

Oh, and about saying stuff like "that version"...no one really cares. What was the final percentage on that poll? like 67% of people on neowin use a pirated version of windows. The second community rule is a joke. Microsoft wouldn't do anything anyway. They know home users are going to pirate their software, they would just be wasting money hiring employees and lawyers to track down the general population, as well as programmers to "break" your XP box after updating...only thing their worried about is large companies (say 1,000 computer using empoyees or more) installing an illegal corp version.

However people are finally figuring out that after they have anything other than the defualt windows software configuration and drivers that XP isn't so stable after all. That's all.
