DirtyLarry Veteran Posted November 4, 2003 Veteran Share Posted November 4, 2003 okay, i was getting the "Insert the Correct CD-Rom" message everytime I tried to launch Call Of Duty (I did buy the retail version), so anyway in the read me and on activisions support site it said make sure you update your nForce 2 drivers and it should fix the problem... I did update (which i went through some majopr issues doing so very long story) and the problem was not fixed... So i am going through the support site and nothing, so I called activision support themselves... so the guy asks me if i have alcohol 120 and nero, and i said yeah i have both, so he tells me theres an issue with installing the game if you have either of those apps, so he then suggests i uninstall them both, and then unisntall call of duty, then reinsteall call of duty and then reinstall both apps again and that should fix it. supposedly the issue is the cod disks has some kind of copy protection, so i was ****ed to say the least this was the advice i was given to fix the problem. so i figure if it has copy protection maybe its the virtual drives i have mounted through alocohol. sure enough i unmount them and the game launched right away... i think this is absurd and thought other people should now if they have the same problem... it very well may not be your nForce drivers but if you have virtual drives mounted through alcohol 120%
Niels
Hmmm, my copy of Call of Duty worked quite well while being mounted by Daemon Tools itself.
ZombieFly
this is exactly the same problem as experienced with the 1.45 patch of battlefield, virtual drives present on a machine ca mean the protection routine doesn't detect the disc properly [probably intentionally] EA fixed this with the 1.50 patch of BF this week. Evidently its more important to **** off paying customers and FORCE them to download cracks for legitimate software than it is to get the protection right in the first place  there is also an issue when using more than one physical cd drive in your machine. Always ensure u install using the first drive in the list for safedisk2 protected software.
