nope, they're very right. paste dries, reducing it's functionality over time. Also, it can sometimes explode out of the gap between the die and the heatsink, leaving empty space, causing the die of the cpu to heat up and blow.

i would get some thermal paste,as it usually works better.arctic silver 3 is good or what xStainDx said, arctic silver 5 which just came out recently. :)

don't use the pads, get paste stuff. i don't know about artic silver 5, its the new kid on the block. but it might just be a marketing scam. you'll have to read reviews. artic ceramique is what came out after artic silver 3 and it was cheaper than 3 and better. thats what i'm using and its great.

paste honestly does work better while it's FRESH, but after it dries, you'd wish you had a pad. If you use it though, I'd recommend changing it every 3-6 months, depending on how long per day your computer's turned on.

I don't know...I didn't assemble it....

but paste USUALLY down't blow up so running it for extended periods of time is usually fine, but after it dries your temps will go higher than they would if it were fresh.

but USUALLY, it still remains a more effective cooling solution than a thermal pad. :)

i would go thermal paste as suggested...those tests on THG are pretty crazy though :) you know AMD dont approve the use of Thermal Paste on their chips [WTF?!] yeah this is true as i found this out when my AMD 2000XP+ fried and the guy was like "Uh yeah...those white does on the core - is it thermal compound" im like "Yeah - Its Artic Silver..." and he goes "Yeah...thats the problem we cant help you AMD dont validate this..."

so i take out my BooMSTiCK and smack him! BoooooMSTiCK!

it makes sure it's applied PROPERLY...

also it really is better than MOST pastes...Arctic silver and one other (can't remember name right now" are the best for transfer, but they still have all the faults of pastes

i think one of the toms hardware videos shows it, tho they aint that careful when they do do it.

put a pea size amount on the core of your processor and apply it evenly around.
