NerdInside
Two weeks ago, about this time I was ecstatic. I was telling everyone I knew about this wonderful phenomenon of the 21st century....*trumpet sounds* iTunes! Ever since I realized that buying 10 songs to listen to 1 song was not only silly but foolhearty, I've detested the RIAA's efforts to thwart legal digital music transfer. Why? Because I knew in my heart if such a service existed I would use it...even excessively. I love music. I hate CDs. I hate the RIAA. Read the rest on my website. nutternutin
itunes will not play the .wmv files you get from Napster. That sucks. I went to get my 5 free songs, and now they are wothless to me.

isus
itunes wins. it's just better. it looks nicer, it performs better, and it isn't a p.o.s. riding on a good name/rep. "Numero 2. Napster uses WMA, which has flexible DRM." uh, you don't consider apple's drm 'flexible'?

Napster uses WMA, which has flexible DRM." uh, you don't consider apple's drm 'flexible'? agreed Listen whatever restrictions on songs is probably because of the record label. Except for maybe the songs that are 20 minutes long. That would be TOO much of a deal for .99. And the longer albums cost more too.
QuarterSwede
iTunes by a landslide. I don't want to pay Napster just to browse their full library of songs. Give me a break! That and .mp4 (aac) just sound better.
Icarus ^i^
I'd love to finally download music legally, but until iTunes music store opens for us non-US customers, I guess I'll keep kazaa installed. I read somewhere the music store was planned for european launch in 2004... looks good.
cq_
in ABX testing I, and fellow students have conducted, OGG won out overall, however AAC was very close, and then WMA, but at a VERY distant 3rd... iTunes, better TOTAL quality period. Napster uses WMA, which has flexible DRM." uh, you don't consider apple's drm 'flexible'? Apple's DRM doesn't allow you to use any devices outside of an iPod. However, there are over 400 devices on the market that I can transfer my WMA files too. Plus, the WMA license allows you to listen the music wherever the license is...not on 3 computers at a time. LiLViEtDuDe917
I would say that iTunes is much better. Napster and iTunes both take up excessive memory, but its ok. I still rather use winamp classic which takes up only about 3 mb. iTunes and Napster are both alike in sorting out the songs, but iTunes is better at syncing. I would overall use iTunes. csabo2
Not only that but If you use Crapsters "Premium" service, you get unlimited downloads, well YAY! .. but no, if you cancel your account, the Songs you PAID for no longer work, not to mention you cant burn, copy, convert any of them. In my own personal testing .aac offers much better quality than .ogg at the same bit rate. I use to use .ogg then started using .aac when iTunes came out. It seems to handle highs much better and offers a clearer sound. Back on topic. iTunes is much better than Napster as I have already stated. Kazaa has always sucked it's just that so many people used it you had to, to find anything.

For some people, this is a great thing. Personally, I see the benefit. As long as you pay 10 dollars a month...you have ondemand music...online and offline. That is a steal. All the music you "PAID" for? Think again, you rented the music, bozo. You wouldn't get that much music...even the right to listen to it...from iTunes for 10 bucks. And who cares about OGG vs. ACC vs. WMA. No one does. The quality is good on all 3. All are better than MP3 at any bitrate. Simple fact is, you can actually use WMA outside of the napster main program..which is nice.
isus
just a few interesting things: apparently wal-mart has decided to jump on the bandwagon: http://www.nypost.com/business/9969.htm and itunes' 1.5mil a week to napster 300thou: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/031106/sfth077_1.html

isus
oh, so now you're talking about crappy software? that's ok, i'll pass. besides, we already use windows, isn't that punishment enough? why should we deal with the torture of wma? and when apple can sell 5x more songs in a week than napster, that says something. perhaps "success"? Napster leaves a bad taste in one's mouth from a few years ago. Apple is an established name and lots of hype lead up to and around the release of it. I didn't even realize napster was coming out when I downloaded iTunes...I was just excited to have iTunes because it was iTunes. The fact that they sold more doesn't even mean their service is better. It just means they sold more. That's all. Generic furniture sells a lot better than handmade...but what does that mean about the quality of either one? Nothing.
