X
I cannot play dvds on here anymore :( they skip, sometimes slow and feezes for some odd reason. I dont think I tried playing dvds on winxp.. Only things running in background are za, incd and trillian and that little speaker because I cant seem to find how to disable that bugger. I highly doubt anyone can help me with this :( damn... but its worth a try.. My system gets real busy when playing them now too... Things that have changed on my puter since they use to play - os -win2k dvd software -now using cyberlinks dvd xp sound card - forced to use built on sound card at the moment because my pci one isnt working on here... video card - gf3 ti 500 with the lastest drivers direct x 8.1 higher rez on desktop 1152 32 @ 75 and larage fonts (use to have 1024 back on win98 when dvds worked) :disappoin (already tried a lower one with smaller fonts) (oops not dx 9)
Dazzla Veteran Posted January 19, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2002 Direct x 9 might have something to do with it, Also, I doubt InCD is having a good effect. Have you tried it without these apps? Or without DX9? Have you tried playing DVD's in WMPXP? On a side note, to get rid of the little speaker, go to control panel - sounds and audio devices - then uncheck the "place icon in the taskbar" option. X
I only tried playing it in that cyber link xp one. Could that be the problem? Ok got rid of the speaker. How do I disable the incd on start? Msconfig doesnt seem to work on win2k... Is there another command for win2k? :ermm: I ve only tried playing the dvd without trillain and za I think. Roger H. Veteran Posted January 19, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2002 try the program itself and he's on Win2k Dazzla! :) I have Windows Media 8 for 2k if you want it too..( is that warez since it is free?) anyways. try your startup folder. Should be start - programs - startup check that and see if it's there. Try WinDVD too instead of powerdvd.. let me know what you need and check your email and your PMs on neowin! RossDundas Veteran Posted January 19, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2002 this is wierd this........i've had this same problem...some DVDs that won't play in power DVD without crashing or freezing work fine in the living room. Really whak. I'm beggining to think that PowerDVD is a buggy POS....i haven't found a decent (and free) alternative though :(

Roger H. Veteran Posted January 20, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2002 it's in device manager. Right click primary ide channel in ide/atapi controller and then go to the advanced tab and you'll see your DMA settings there....

nekrosoft13
try powerdvd. if not than maybe your drive is mest up. my friends dvd drive broke about 2 months ago. the drive worked, but it was very slow, and it was scratching circles on the disks. in my opinion dvd-roms break easy, on my old computer, the dvd-drive stoped reading cds, but it still readed dvds normally.
