What's the point of Blu-Ray ads on a Blu-Ray disc?

OP - just curious. Which movie were you watching with such ads. I have a good amount of blurays and while I certainly see ads for movies on bluray, its not specifically an ad for the bluray tech but for the movie coming out on that format. If I hit next chapter to top menu on my remote I am usually able to go right to the main menu. Disney blurays now have an option for "next preview" or skip to movie, hopefully other companies jump on board with this.

Indeed... Funny thing about it, I believe a lot of people actually would download a car if they could :p

http://torrentfreak....torrent-090506/ some people did actually download a car :)

and with the recent improvements with 3d printing, we might actually be pirating cars in the near future.. lol

Unfortunately, it's too late for the option to skip now. Understandable on VHS where you couldn't simply skip forward or advance immediately to a menu screen. When it comes to the digital age, the media companies are still lagging way behind, and piracy warnings are just silly. They're just warning the people who've already paid. As for trailers and such, they should really be put on their own menu. I'd be more inclined to watch them if they're not forced up on me as I explore the extra features on the disk.

One of the big problems for me with trailers at the start of disc menus is .. if the movie has been watched multiple times (that's why we buy them right?) we probably have already sat through and watched the same trailers over and over again... notonly that, but chances are by the 2 or 3 time, the trailers are dated and the movies are already released, some you might already own. Kind of pointless and just annoys the viewer more.

People still use discs?

Use them.. sure. A lot of my friends buy movies and TV box sets more as a display set then anything else, and will often rip them to their PC.

Personally, I still buy DVD where I can, they're fast and easy to rip. Once they're on my server, I use Plex to stream them to my Windows Phone, Roku and Windows PCs. It's like having my own personal Netflix library. The DVDs are then just stuffed into a cardboard box along with the rest and when the box is full, it goes into the loft for storage.

A total waste of loft space, but its there for backup if my server ever sets on fire or something.

The stupidest ad is an ad on a Blu-Ray Disc telling you how awesome a Blu-Ray is.

The funniest ad is the ad about the "Free Digital Copy" that comes with it. They show you all the benefits of it and how you can play it on your PC. They then go to show you all the different places you can go and watch your movies. One of the back drops was a school library! :D
