MGM's Gary Barber and producer Graham King announced today that the studio has gained the film rights to the successful video game franchise Tomb Raider, and will develop with GK Films. They hope that it will relaunch the action/adventure series. After two films from Paramount Pictures starring Angelina Jolie, a new take on Lara Croft has been in development for some time. King acquired the rights back in 2011. No distributer has been named yet. "Graham is one of the premier producers in this industry and I am delighted to be working with him on this exciting franchise," says Barber. "We look forward to developing more projects together in the future." A video game reboot was released earlier this month to much success, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that a new feature film is being actively developed.

I quite liked Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. Casting ideas anyone?
