Chiss1
Well, my Xbox has been acting like a biotch on me lately. Some new games just wont work well. I have the amazing (;)) Thomson or what ever drive, and some games just crash on it. So, my plan. I will go to Gamestop and give them my messed up XBox for a whopping 100 Simoleons. I will then buy a new Xbox, along with Tetris Worlds (YES!) and that, non-popular, half-assed Star Wars game. So, for $80, I get a NEW Xbox, 2 games, and a nice new Controller S! BUT, here is where the badness starts. My Xbox Live account..and all my Saved data. I will FIRST have to shell out money for a one time use thing. Arg! WHY! So, here are the few questions I have: Im a GURANTEED one of those new, sexy Samsung drives if I buy a new Xbox? Whats the cheapest possible Mem card I can buy. If the person at Gamestop says "Why are you trading in your Xbox, just to buy a new one', what should I say/do to the person? What do I have to save for my Xbox account on my old xbox? Thank you all for your time.

The problem is that apperantly the Thompson drives die out eventually. Wouldn't be a problem if I didn't mod my system but I did :) Might as well try to find a Samsung in case it ever does. siniik
If anyone needs a samsung drive for their xbox then i would suggest checking ebay. There are also a few reputable people on xbox-scene.com forums that also sell them. It is very easy to replace the drives. There are tons of tutorials on taking the whole thing apart on their site. Might be worth while if you don't want to take the risk of not getting a samsung in the new one you buy.
cyclingplatypus
If your really worried about losing your account info or a modded box why not buy a new drive? Check eBay http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?q...10&BasicSearch=
Ironman273
I did exactly what you mentioned for the same reasons (I didn't have XBox Live, though). I turned it into a Gemspot, dorve down the street to the next Gamestop and got the new one. I didn't feel like answering any questions about why I'm doing it. I'm nbot sure which drive I got, but it definitely is way better than the Thompson drive, albeit a little noisier.

Ironman273
You cannot!! Do you mean taking an XBox out of it's box or taking it apart? Because you can know which drive you have by ejecting it without taking the XBox apart..

AndyD
if you can get your hands on a samsung, they are easily replaceable... easily?? it looked like you had to fool around with some wiring and soldering. Or am I wrong? Will I be able to use the xbox tray face??
siniik
easily?? it looked like you had to fool around with some wiring and soldering. Or am I wrong? Will I be able to use the xbox tray face?? Yes it is easy... There is no soldering necessary, just unscrew the case and pull out the plugs in the back of the drive and replace. However you will void your warranty if you open it up.
