AndyD
hehe The box was voided the same week I bought it :) Anyway, all of the tutorials on Xbox-Scene show a lot more work has to be done to replace the drive than what you make it out to be. Chiss1
Im gonna bring it to Gamestop maybe around Thanksgiving time. If I get store credit at Gamestop, can I keep it as a giftcard, and use it at another gamestop, or must I use it at the same one? Cause thet said I can only get store credit for my Xbox. siniik
i just checked.. i have a samsung. are you guys saying thats the ideal one to have? yes Spyder, you have the best dvd drive available for the xbox. You can play most cdr, cdrw, dvd-r, dvd-rw which is nice if you plan on modding it. ;)

Yes it is. I don't know why I even got stuck with a Thompson. The guy that modded my system said that the version i had usually has one of the newer dvd-drives. I wonder if EB stuck me with a refurb. Briandl79
The Thomson gets a bad name but if the Samsung or Philips were used in the first generation units I'm sure we would see people now, almost three years from launch with Samsung or Philips drives that are malfunctioning. The Samsung isn't that great of a drive unless you plan on reading CDR. Personally I hardly ever burn CDR anymore, 99% of my burns are on DVD media. Having said that if you have a - drive or a dual format drive then having a Samsung isn't a bad thing either, even if you don't use CDR media it's nice to know you can. The Samsung drive however is very picky about what + media it reads, Samsung states the drive does not read + media.
o_87
I've read that the Thompson drive can read DVD-R media as long as it is high quality..whatever that means
