Best friend graduating college, gift help

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, so one of my best friends, and specifically my best female friend, is graduating from college / University for you UK folk :) and will be moving to California this summer to start her internship at a movie editing studio (go her!!!). I am truly struggling with a creative gift, we have many memories, oh I'm male just to clarify the relationship. Anyways I am really struggling, I want to incorporate how much she means to me, how proud I am of her, and possibly something she can use in the future and/or something meaningful in the form of "you're going to go places, great places" type deal. I really am just asking for any suggestions on gift giving as I know anything I get will mean something to her but want her to absolutely love it. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance guys and gals.

A piece of jewelry is nice and can be a keepsake for many years to come.

So possibly a necklace or bracelet, along with like... a photo album of some of our "greatest moments" possibly?

a hooker

Hum! How dare you! Shouldn't you be updating us with news stories? I didn't know you took a break from it; a compliment - take it no other way, sir.

Quite possibly. My wife has a necklace with a picture of of her and an old female friend that she has cherished for years.

BTW, I started to suggest a hooker but changed my mind at the last minute. :D

a diamond engagement ring.... and go on bended knee.

Haha she's just a friend, but if forced to, it wouldn't be a bad way to spend my days, talking sports & movies, remaining competitive athletically lol

Seeing as it is the thought that counts, couldn't you just print out this thread and give her that?

Haha that is a creative thought, maybe I'll toss it in with whatever I do end up giving her.

This is what a friend did for me - it was pretty sweet. It was for my past birthday but otherwise you can borrow the concept (which is changed a bit below to better suit a graduating gift):

Gather a bunch of mutual friends between you and her.

Get them to share a few messages for your friend. Besides the obligatory "congrats" and well wishes, you could get them to share memories they had with your friend. Stories of first encounters work great.

Get some photos! Preferably match the photos between your friend and your mutual friends' messages.

Then take some fancy journal and scatter the messages and photos in random locations in the journal. Whether you choose to get your friends to write down the messages (yearbook-style!) or whether you transcribe everything is your choice.

Bonne chance. :)

If all fails, customized photo gifts are a safe bet.

The cash you are going to use to buy her a gift. I'm sure she is going to need it!

No, it's sad how much debt people have to get into to educate themselves :(

Gold, engraved pen is pretty traditional, isn't it? Or engraved jewellery. Locket, pendant. Something like that.

I suppose you should also express to her how proud you are and how happy you are for her. I don't know how sentimental she is, but that might be worth more than any present.

Get a collage of pictures of you, her, and all your friends together. Or (similar to what Denis W said), if the creative juices are really flowing, take a video camera and talk to a bunch of your mutual friends about first meetings, fun memories, etc. Then make a video! She will love that.
