torrentthief
Hi guys, i was doing some research today about openstreetmaps.org as i was wondering if they allowed anyone to download their maps and store them on our pc's as that would give us more privacy. What i found out was that there are quite a number of apps that use their data on phones and tablets and some even have all of the data available to download and store on your phones for offline viewing. Google maps allows you to choose a city to download but with mapswithme you can download entire countries!!! I downloaded england which is 257mb. Wales, scotland, northern ireland and ireland totalled around 150mb or so extra. Now i can go anywhere in uk+ireland and not need wifi or 3g/4g/lte to be able to find out where i am. It works with gps (optionally) too btw but it can't give you directions or do turn by turn navigations, it is just an offline map. It has ALL countries btw, i checked china too and their streets are on too. I thought i'd let you guys know about this as i've wanted a fully offline map for ages as i have an android phone but i have PAYG not a contract so i don't get data and don't want to pay for it as i just use wifi. The app is FREE btw, they have a pro version for ?3/?3.27 which allows you to orientate the map with your find, searching for streets and shops and some other features, i've just got the free version :) Requries android 2.1+ and is ~10mb, ios requires 4.3+ and is ~44mb android pro version (?3.27/$4.99): https://play.google.....maps.pro&hl=en android (FREE): https://play.google....mapswithme.maps Ios pro version (?2.99/$4.99): https://itunes.apple...23322?mt=8&ls=1 ios (FREE): https://itunes.apple...d431183278?mt=
ehlo
How does it compare to some established offline navigation apps on Android such as Osmand and Navit?

V-Tech
I'm trying to think of the point of those apps. On an android device today you have Google Maps and Google Navigation that work on GPS without the need for data. Why do i need anything other than that? Try turning off your wifi/3g and zooming in on google maps, it doesn't work. The openstreetmap.org data for the whole of the world is around 22gb, how do you think that can fit on a 2gb micro sd card? You can download the data on google maps for 1 city for use offline later but not a whole country.
