Teen dies playing chicken

A 15-year-old boy was recently killed when a lead car of a train struck him head-on in the San Francisco Bay area.

Police sources reported the boy was one of three young men in the middle of playing ?chicken? in front of the train when the accident occurred.

Austin Price, 15, was the last of the teens who tried playing chicken, and when he made to cross the train tracks, he was hit by the train.

One passenger reported:

?You could tell everybody was freaked out. You had kids crying and all of that. It?s crazy. A lot of people are shaken up right now ? as you could see, I am.?

The tragic crash and death of the 15-year-old boy led to some major train delays. One passenger, John D?Alessandro, though no doubt similarly saddened by the event, said that the boy need not have died in front of his friends. It was other children that seemed particularly devastated by the crash.

?A few people who were on the train said they saw kids crying on the platform, and pointing underneath the train. So I?m assuming it was one of their kids that got hit?, he added.

When a teen dies playing chicken with a train, however, it brings serious safety concerns to the forefront. An Alameda County official noted that kids from the San Francisco Bay area often play near the train tracks.

?It?s very important that kids realize how dangerous the tracks are, that parents reiterate that to their children, that they need to stay off the tracks and don?t walk on the tracks for any reason, especially not to play games like chicken and not to take a shortcut home,? she concluded as a warning to parents and children alike.

Hopefully such a tragic story may be avoided in the future.

And will continue to happen when train lines are so easily accessible to play these crazy games on. But I'm sure nowhere in the world could budget a way to completely block train tracks off. :(

Hopefully not because if some people are that brain dead, they defiantly deserve a Darwin award.

Only stupid will play chicken with 100 ton train

You can't prevent stupid. Look at the people who get killed by roller coasters by jumping the fence into forbidden areas.

Not a dime should be spent on putting up barriers or such. If idiots want to do idiotic things, they will find a way. Like messages on batteries saying "Do not swallow". Sod it, go right ahead if that's what you want to do.

Don't get me wrong, I feel terrible for his family, worse for the driver of the train, but the poor fool brought this on himself with a stupid and antisocial act :(

Wow. We did some stupid things as kids... but when we played "chicken" it was on bicycles.

[edit]

Actually, now that I think back... we did some REALLY stupid things... swimming in reservoirs, climbing to the top of 100' pine trees (those little branches SNAP), skyrocket fights, doing 110 in an AMC pacer (trying to keep up with a porsche 911) and plenty of other things I should probably not reveal.

I should probably be dead... now I hover over my children and try to prevent them from doing the same, stupid things but I think that's probably moot.

And good riddance. This reminds me of the two girls that got their legs broken by a train because they were sunbathing on the ****ing tracks. What the hell did you expect to happen?

The only downside to that story is that their legs were on the tracks and not their heads.

Here's the story if you want to lose some more faith in humanity:

It's sad but in the UK, someone dies on the tracks every day for half the year (if you put all the incidents together).

December/January/February are the worst months.

Luckily never had one at my station but worked through plenty.

We shouldn't waste any money on trying to prevent this happening because no matter how hard we try, those that want to risk their lives in the pursuit of thrills, will always find a way to reach their goal.

Say we were to fence every track and station off, that would just make it more of a thrill.
