Ron Perlman Says

?Hellboy? and ?Hellboy II: The Golden Army? were only modest successes by the standards of superhero movies, grossing $99 million and and $160 million respectively, so the demand for a ?Hellboy 3? doesn?t seem particularly high. However, according to Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman, a third film needs to happen.

Despite the fact that they weren?t huge hits, both of the ?Hellboy? films are pretty terrific and feature director Guillermo del Toro at his wackiest and most playful. Although his slate is currently full of seemingly dozens of projects, surely he could carve out some time to cap off Hellboy?s story. After all, according to Perlman (via IGN), he already knows exactly what a third film would look like:

We both walked away from Hellboy 2 agreeing that there would never be another one. But, with the passage of time, it became clear to me that he really always designed it as a trilogy. He has a very well-articulated idea of what the resolve would look like and it?s amazingly theatrical and is epic in scope and would make for amazing cinema, with or without the first two movies.

However, del Toro?s imagination is infamously bigger than his capacity for actually getting movies made, so there?s always a chance that ?Hellboy 3? will join the countless ideas that never leave his brain. That?s not going to stop Perlman though, who keeps pestering the filmmaker about finishing the trilogy:

But there are so many questions posed in the first two films that absolutely need to be answered. I said, ?You owe it to the world to finish this trilogy.? I?ve been giving him Jewish guilt.

You can see Perlman in del Toro?s ?Pacific Rim? this summer, a project that, hopefully, will give the director enough clout to make whatever he wants?maybe even ?Hellboy 3.?

I would enjoy another Hellboy. The first two were good fun, with a weird, funky story. Selma Blair is easy on the eyes too. :)

Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman sat down with Legendary Pictures head Thomas Tull last night, a break from the San Francisco-based weekend press tour for Pacific Rim.

Del Toro told Ryan Turek of ShockTillYouDrop.com this morning during their one-on-one chat that Perlman brought up the prospect of Hellboy 3.

"I hate giving pieces about it, but last night, we were at dinner and Ron said, 'I would be very happy to do Hellboy again, when are we doing Hellboy 3?' Thomas [Tull] said, 'I would love to see Hellboy 3.' He didn't say he would love to do it he just said he'd like to see it, but today, I'll ask him."

Later this morning, Shock spoke with Perlman, who agreed Legendary would be a great home for the final chapter in the Hellboy legacy.

"Not just anybody can make this movie," Perlman said. "I loved working for Legendary and I know for Guillermo working on Pacific Rim was one of his greatest experiences. The reason I loved working for them is because Guillermo was so happy. I came in six months into the shoot and he seemed as fresh as a daisy, simply because he was working for someone who appreciated and supported his outlandish visions of what he wanted to put on the screen. My immediate, silent wish was, wouldn't it be great if these guys came in and helped resolve the Hellboy series."

The first Hellboy was great, but the second one was a total letdown. I probably won't see a third one in theaters, will hold off until it reaches Netflix/Amazon Prime.
