A&E picks up Mark Wahlberg produced docu-reality series set in Boston

Boston born and bred actor Mark Wahlberg has been given a six-episode order by A&E to produce an untitled docu-reality series that will be set in his home town. The project will be the first unscripted series for Wahlberg, who will be helped along by frequent collaborator Stephen Levinson, Bill Thompson and long-time reality producer Stephanie Drachkovitch.

The project is inspired by the spirit of the strong and hard-worn characters from Wahlberg?s Oscar-nominated film, The Fighter. Wahlberg and Thompson were interested in finding, and talking to, real life women in Boston who are living examples of women and girls living through challenging times and adversity. The series will focus on the themes of exceeding expectations and second chances and will follow the lives of four unlikely female friends from different parts of Boston. The four women will be shown trying to find themselves and achieve their dreams, while being limited by their blue-collar, working-class surroundings and upbringings. The reality of their lives, filled with close-knit families, young children of their own and in-and-out boyfriend, is one that constantly contradicts their fight and aspirations for greatness.

The docu-reality series was given a pilot order back in November, and the order to a series comes closely following A&E?s decision to green light another docu-reality project about stay-at-home dads.
