Jaehend
how about showing a way to convert Windowblinds themes to styleXP and visa versa...reason : I use neither...I use the cracked uxtheme.dll file and have seen some WB themes that I like but can't use them as they aren't formatted to *.msstyle, *.theme files...if there is a way, program, to rip these files from a WB theme, please direct me to it or show me how to do it...thx
Dazzla Veteran Posted January 20, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2002 For a start, most (good) windowblind skinners are very protective of their skins and wont appreciate skins being ripped. The only way I know to convert is to extract every image file and modify the graphics to fit msstyles. Then create a msstyle. Not a matter of just pressing a button which you want to do. Jaehend
I am not trying to find a one button convertor for WB themes. I do respect the work and skill put into these themes by the creators. What I am looking for is a way to extract these themes for my personal use form WB and other theme programs w/o having to d/l every single one of them just to be able to use the different themes I like. In previous versions of windows themes were easily applied as they were mostly in the same file format irregardless of what program you used. Now there are at least a dozen or more program all with different file formats and I don't want to have to d/l every one of them and crowd my hd and system resources just to use a theme. To me, this is rediculous. My apologies to you and others who have read this thread for the misconception of my intentions...

Yep, that's the way. The bitmaps of wbskins and msstyles skins are almost the same. A theme like aquarium by alexandrie could easy be converted to a msstyles skin. Ofcourse it wouldn't have a swimming fish in the titlebars. A great converted skin is for example preluna, also from alexandrie. Neodisces converted it into a msstyles skin. Binary
It also started a war..... Dont know why people care if their skins are ported, as long as credit is given to the original author.
Dazzla Veteran Posted January 20, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2002 I agree 100%. I dont make skins myself, but I make icons and I dont care if people package them, port them etc as long as the readme is in there. I got flamed for converting hundreds of mac icons cause I didn't get permission. I'm now remaking the Block OS series of icons WITH permisison so hopefully I wont get flamed... greenreaper
Some people don't, and in that case there is no problem. Some people do. Nevertheless, it's up to you to respect their wishes, since they made it in the first place. Just because you feel it shouldn't matter doesn't mean you have the right to impose your views on what is their work.
Dazzla Veteran Posted January 20, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2002 Since I done all those ports, everything I've made which required it, I asked permission. I aint gonna make the same mistake twice :)
Jaehend
This thread has gotten off topic. I am NOT asking for a way to port WB themes to StyleXP for creation of a theme to upload and claim as my own with or without permission. I am asking HOW to port, rip, convert a WB theme for personal use on my own pc. As I stated previously, I like some of the WB themes, as well as other theme programs, but I don't want to d/l every theme software for every theme I like. So please, do not misunderstand my intentions and make this into a holy war about who did what with what and what they will and won't allow to be done with it. We told you, rip all of the graphics out of the windowblinds theme, save all the images, open up a program like stylebuilder or reshacker and replace/modify every single image. That is the ONLY way...
