After an admirable five-season run, TNT has decided not to renew the cult police drama 'Southland;' after a mere single season, the impressively-cast David E. Kelley project 'Monday Mornings' has been dropped by TNT, as well.

'Southland' had its first season on NBC where it middled in the ratings but proved intriguing enough to attract viewers and other network's attentions. From there it moved to TNT where it spent four successful seasons, receiving critical acclaim every step of the way. 'Southland' takes a raw look at Los Angeles as it is in the 2000s and as well at the lives of the officers of the Los Angeles Police Department who are trying to contain it. Created by Ann Biderman, writer on 'NYPD Blue,' 'Southland' assembled a cast of proven character actors and supplemented them with gritty, realistic stories. Although the series won't see a sixth season, everyone involved in 'Southland' can hold their heads high and pat each other on the back for a job well done.

In the same press release where TNT executives announced the decision to cancel 'Southland,' they were very clear to declare the series "one of the best police dramas ever made." You would be hard-pressed to argue against that claim. The cancellation did not come as much of a shock: with the end near, three of the show?s four main actors ? Ben McKenzie, Regina King and Shawn Hatosy ? booked pilots this season.

On the other side of the TNT spectrum is 'Monday Mornings,' a surgeon drama from writing juggernaut David E. Kelley. The man who brought you 'Ally McBeal,' 'The Practice,' 'Boston Legal' and other hits has had his second misfire with 'Monday Mornings,' as TNT has opted to drop it after a single season. The fact that the show never attracted an audience is curious--Kelley's involvement alone is usually sufficient to generate buzz around any project. Further, 'Monday Mornings' starred feature film stars Ving Rhames ('Pulp Fiction,' 'Dawn of the Dead') and Alfred Molina ('Frida,' 'Spider-Man 2'). The series was based on a novel by Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

Monday Mornings was pretty good, sad to see it go after one season.

Yeah, I never got to catch up after they cancelled it on NBC. I wanted to watch it on TNT but just wanted to get from the beginning again and just never got the chance.

Sad it got cancelled though but 5 seasons was a good run in any show IMO with so many not even making it past season 1 or 2. :)

Just watched Monday Mornings for the first time. Not great at all... can't say I've missed much BUT it's still watchable.

I didn't get hooked but I don't feel like I wasted 2hrs of my life watching the first 2 episodes. I started watching it after knowing it was already cancelled but i'll check out the rest of the episodes as a something to keep me mildly entertained.
