Windows Explorer. If you're using Vista or higher you will need to index the locations you want to search.

windows 7.Enterprise.

How do I tell windows explorer to filter only excel files and search a specific keyword ?

Can you please tell me the steps ?

I would use win grep - specify filetype, location and words

I am getting multiple matches for this tool in google. Can you please tell me which one to download ?

which version of excel files?

version 97-2003 (.xls) can be searched directly as the content is not compressed, you can use program like SearchMyFiles from Nirsoft

version 2007-... you need program that can search within .zip files, as .xlsx really are .zip file.

EDIT: yeah wingrep can do this as its support searching within .zip files.

Run through these steps first to ensure that Explorer searches file contents:

Then in the search box type kind:spreadsheet followed by the text you want to search for. For instance, kind:spreadsheet income will find all spreadsheets containing the word income.
