In the upcoming second season of TNT's "Major Crimes," Mary McDonnell's LAPD captain is about to get an unwelcome visitor from her past. Tom Berenger will join the ensemble police procedural when it returns this June as part of an extended storyline arc.

The actor will portray Jackson, the longtime estranged husband of McDonnell's Sharon Raydor, who is swept back into her life during one of the elite police squad's latest investigations. "[Jackson] is extremely charming and funny... He was a big defense lawyer at one point, making big bucks, but he had a drinking problem," Berenger let on in an interview with TV Guide.

He continued, "He quit drinking, but then he started gambling in Vegas. He's always out of money and the kids don't want to talk to him. And now he's gotten himself back in L.A. on the court-appointed attorney list."

While the pair is forced back together because of work, Jackson is hopeful that the arrangement will lead to a longer term reunion. "Jack's a hopeless romantic who still wears his wedding ring, but she doesn't," Berenger says. "He ends up sleeping on the couch."

The actor most recently garnered critical attention for his Emmy winning role in "Hatfields & McCoys," later walking away from Fox's upcoming police procedural "Gang Related."

Berenger's three episode guest appearance on TNT's "Major Crimes" will begin on July 8th.
