I need serious advice

Recommended Posts

Im going to try to keep it short, on monday morning i was getting ready to go for a picnic with my family. I always check the car for oil before i drive it, to my surprise the dip stick was flipping dry. So i looked underneath the car and there was oil all around the car plus puddle on the ground. I was so angry for such a new car Honda CRV 2012. I filled it up and drove it to my dealer where i bought the god damn thing. First they thought it might be the oil filter or the drain plug then they told me the problem is much more serious so they gave me a rental car.

They called me today and i was told that someone must of pinched the oil filter, someone must have been under the car, they asked me if i attempted to do a diy oil changed and of course my answer was no. They also said the bolts that hold the belly pan or plastic covers where stripped.

Im thinking there is a bigger issuse they dont want to deal with, i will never know what the oil filter looked before or after because to get to it you would have to remove the plastic covers and i didn't want to touch anything. The car was due for an oil change within couple houndred miles and they think i attempted to do it my self.

I do not know what to do, i have a neighbour who doesnt like me but i doubt he would go to that length of doing something like this plus the car is parked on my driveway.

Whats the best approach to this..!

Thanks

Let it go because you will never be 100% sure what happened. Buy an alarm, or park it in the garage.

Im just afraid that it might have been some serious issue and they just patched it up, like a crack head or something, there is no way someone could have come to my driveway and take the belly pan off and pinch the oil filter, its just plain stupid and it doesn't make any sense.

So were the bolts and such replaced/fixed? Who did your oil change last? Do you have records??

Are you saying that you may have other issues than what you listed?

I would suggest taking your car to a certified master tech.

The dealer did the oil change, i bought it from them and always had the oil changed by the dealer, they told me they have all the broken bolts and pinched oil filter for to see it. They said there is no rust on the oil filter that would suggest that this has happen quite long time ago, its fresh. No i don't think i have had any other issues I'm just saying maybe they just patched a big problem so they don't want to deal with it.

One thing that they did is, when they sold me the car, after a couple of weeks of driving the first gear always seemed hesitant so i check the transmission fluid and it barely had any fluid, went back to them and i argue a bit but i let it go because i was getting ready for a long trip. How could they sell a brand new car and never check the fluids even though it states on the service manual that they checked everything.

Sadly, unless you saw that screws and filter before, there is nothing that you can do. Get some new screws, a new filter and oil, and an alarm.

Problem will be solved.

It says they 'check' everything, not that they filled it. Seriously though if it is below level, they will fill it, so maybe it wasn't when they looked.

I would almost wonder if you have someone that hates you, and is emptying your car fluids for fun. Naw, but you never know.

Now I made you think...

Sadly you wont know unless you look yourself or find a trustworthy certified master tech.

In my opinion I would NOT leave this alone especially since it sounds fishy from their end. Did they lack proper explanation of the issue?

I know there are legitimate ways to get this resolved, especially if you have warranty and if they guareenteed a service that wasnt done..

Edit: Yeah like the guy said above, unless you took pictures and had proof before its a bit hard now..

They told me they would put new screws and all that but this very dissapointed im just hoping its something more serious about the car, i mean i still have two more years of warranty but this sucks and I'm trying to figure out what took them so long to figure out where the oil was leaking from. I took the car in yesterday morning and they looked at it and they said its not the oil filter or the plug but something more serious but today they told me it was the oil filter..! That doesn't sound right to me.

I'm not certain I understand your logic here. You mean you think they might have fixed a more serious issue without telling you so you won't make a fuss about the fact it was there? So what, the problem's fixed. Let it go. You'll never know now whether the problem was there all along, so no point in stressing about it. If you're worried that maybe there are other problems that they're not telling you about, take it to one or more garages for an inspection.

Here is my logic, i took the car in yesterday morning, first they thought it might be a loose oil filter or drain plug, but after almost two hours of waiting they told me no its not the oil filter or the drain plug its far more serious then that. So they gave me a rental car, today afternoon they called and told me it was the oil filter someone must of pinched it bla bla, how could they not see that yesterday which they were certain it wasn't the problem!

You see what i mean..?

Refer the matter to the Police for an impartial investigation of the matter. They will take evidence from you and the garage and should there be reasonable cause then they will interview your neighbor.

Well thats my two pennies

They are giving you a rental car? It sounds like they are helping you our and you are just paranoid..

Worst case.. they broke something and fixing.. If it is a dealership.. I wouldn't worry about it.. Dealerships charge WAY more than regular car shops.. but usually better quality of work

Can you park it in a garage someplace? I would be concerned too if there were crack heads around trying to damage my vehicle.

Well, I'm not paranoid because it has a warranty but everything sounds so fishy thats why I'm a bit worried, nevertheless i will never find out what really happen. As for the rental; isn't that a standard thing when your take your car in for uncertain time they usually give you a rental right...! How is that doing me a favor?

You also know you dont have to take it to the same dealership right? All of them are required to do warranty work weather or not it was purchased from them to carry the

manufacture seal. Take it somewhere else.

They don't have to give you anything :D It sounds like you are just more interested in arguing with everyone...

Again, no it isn't standard.. Some Dealerships do it.. some do not.. Some may give you a loaner from their lot which is different than a rental..

I hope everything is ok with your ride man, but I wouldn't be surprised if "the new guy" went a little fast and messed something up.. If it is a dealership and it is under factory warranty.. the dealership gets money from whatever they fix from the car manufacture.

Good Luck and take a few deep breaths.

Believe me I'm not that type of person who likes to argue about everything but when you spend 26k then I'm sure everyone wants to make sure something isn't fishy.

if I were you, i would do the oil change myself and see if there are any defected parts.

See thats something i didn't think off thank you.

I fully agree with you on that. I am the same way about my Infiniti.. When I take to the dealership I tend to freak out a little.. I don't even like getting my oil changed.. but if they break something and "cover it up", it will come back and bite the in the ass.. Law suites glorare.. **MOST** dealerships want to make your car run as good as they can.. If you have on that is managed my crooks.. well.. your fu*cked. A Jeep Dealership really tried to screw my mom.. and not in a good way.. lol

You have to be careful with any car repair..

If you feel like something is up, after they finish your car, take your car to a GOOD mechanic and pay them $100 to look over everything.. if something is wrong have them document it and take it to the dealership..

Also, while it is fresh on your head.. write all of this out with a timeline.. so if something did end up being wrong.. it shows that you were worried and not a dumbass.

My thoughts...ex-dealer body tech... the dealership probably wanted to do a CYA (cover your ass) investigation, ie check when they last serviced it, find the tech who did it, ask some questions. If the damage is new, and they hadn't serviced it in a while, they are probably in the clear for the initial filter problem. Now, if they broke something taking it off or during the repair, they should tell you, they will tell you the damage to the vehicle caused problems they didn't see at first, but everything is fixed now.

As long as the car was not driven without oil, there should be no internal damage so no problems. You said the oil was all over the ground and you filled it before you drove it to the dealer, right? I don't know where the filter is in relation to the ground, but is it possible someone took it out for a joy ride and bottomed it out?

DO NOT MESS WITH OR CHECK the car yourself, take it to a Honda Certified Master Mechanic, it will cost you but you mucking about under the hood will only look like you were there the first time and may have caused the problem you took it to them for. Explain everything to the mechanic, and then let him look or check out the work.

The dealership has to care for the car for the rest of the warranty and they don't want it causing them problems down the road, most dealers want to take care of you so you will continue to buy from them.

Thank you, I'm going in tomorrow they already ordered the parts but they haven't changed the oil yet so they agreed to do it tomorrow when I'm there.

They said you just pay for your regular normal oil change.

It sounds like the OPs car is under warranty no?... So why would the dealer continually mess up something on purpose or cover something up, if it is just going to cost them to fix it themselves...

Sounds like they messed up and covered it up.. Which is stupid.. They should have just told you the truth.. but then again.. this is 'Murica.. most likely afraid of lawsuits..

I would still spend a few and get anything mechanic to look at it for peace of mind.

Keep us posted.
