Animal Planet hits ratings record with mermaid documentary hoax

Really, guys?really? On Sunday night, 3.6 million of you (well, maybe not you specifically) helped to break ratings records for Animal Planet by tuning in to watch a ?documentary? about mermaids. On top of that, this is the second time that viewers have flocked to the network in droves to watch a documentary about mermaids that is advertised as real, when in reality; it is a complete and total hoax.

Sunday night?s ?documentary? was actually a sequel to last year?s Mermaids: The Body Found, which was effortlessly proven to a complete farce. Mermaids: The New Evidence showed new video that has surfaced showing mermaids in the Greenland Sea. In addition, the special claims that there has been a government cover-up of evidence that proves the existence of mermaids, accompanied by a spin-off site that they say has been seized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security.

Mermaids: The New Evidence title sceneHere is the deal, a quick search of the special on IMBD shows that the ?mermaids? are actually hired actors. The documentary boasted an ?exclusive interview? with a Dr. Paul Robertson from NOAA which is (SURPRISE) also completely fabricated. The character of Dr. Pail Robertson is played by actor Andre Weideman. Animal Planet can wave away all responsibility over leading their viewers astray with their claims of truth and discovery because they included a teeny-tiny disclaimer that the program was a work of science fiction in the closing credits.

I understand the appeal that a documentary on a mythical creature has, but in an amazing world containing about 2 million catalogued species, is this really what everyone is more interested in? I think if Animal Planet put as much effort into shows on the discovery, conservation and understanding of creatures that actually exist on this planet that we could all better from it.

I feel that every myth has its roots in fact, so, mermaids COULD be real. But if the pictures are real, I'm so very disappointed that mermaids are not the beautiful creatures we have always pictured them to be.

So how much of the world is covered by the ocean? Humans ...a very ignorant species to say the least. To not be open to the possibility of something new or undiscovered is Ludacris

Remember Giant squids were once thought of as only old fishermen legends and mythical tall tales. Now we have proof of giant squids.

I think that merdmaids are real it all goes back to ancient times think about the Romans and Vikings also who would've made up a story of a fish/human humanoid. Open your eyes people we knew them all along people just thought it was to crazy to believe in. It was covered up by the government cause they thought the world will go crazy and drive out there species before we really know there purpose on this earth.

Entertaining, but these shows aren't helping the Evolutionist one bit. It's turned this area of Science into an area of speculative fiction. Can't pick on Creationists when your putting out this kinda material and contradicting your academic principles. You might call God a fairy tale, but this makes Darwin's theory regarding the Human Species appear just as fantastical.

THERE ARE SO MANY PARTS OF THE OCEAN THAT HASN'T EVEN BEEN DISCOVERED THAT ITS A MARVEL OF WHAT HASN'T BEEN DISCOVERED YET.. ITS SO SAD HOW WITH THIS EVIDENCE THERE ARE SPECIAL FORCES THAT ARE DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD.. IF THERE IS SOMETHING OUT THERE WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON..IM AFRAID OF WHAT CERTAIN FORCES WOULD DO TO OR HOW FAR WILL THEY GO TO KEEP THIS UNDER RAPS SAD......

I think the possibility is there that mermaids could be real without ever knowing they were even there do to the shear fact that I think we have explored less than 10% of the ocean as is and on top of that within the last few years we have discovered two more species of well that we just didnt know were there so for all those close minded people out there stick that in your pipe and smoke it

I don't want to live on this planet anymore with these fools :(

This is probably a way of them in determining the general intelligence of the majority of viewers. Basically, snap some fictious crap and bingo, ratings!
