Showtime and Arnold Schwarzenegger are ready to pump *clap* YOU up!

The blockbuster action movie star is paying tribute to the industry that brought him his initial fame, and he's doing it with an original series for premium network Showtime.

The two will team up on "Pump," an hour long period drama set in the 1970s which traces the origins of the modern day fitness industry and bodybuilding craze to a Venice Beach, California gym. No doubt Schwarzenegger has plenty of insight on the time and body sculpting culture, as his first taste of fame came with a multitude of bodybuilding awards, including being the youngest ever Mr. Olympia at the age of 23. He was also featured along with Lou Ferrigno in the 1977 documentary film "Pumping Iron."

"Pump" is written by Michael Konyves ("Barney's Version," "The Last Knight"), who will serve as executive producer along with Schwarzenegger and The Tannenbaum Company's Eric and Kim Tannenbaum. "We loved it, but I said the only way you can really tell this story is if we can get Arnold involved," said Eric Tannenbaum. "The birth of the fitness/bodybuilding revolution can literally be traced back to the days when Arnold arrived in the U.S."

In addition to his behind the scenes role, Schwarzenegger also reportedly intends to recur on the series should the pilot get picked up. The move is part of the former California governor's latest push to move back into Hollywood after his stint as head of the state.
