Low ratings send 'Anger Management' to FOX for four-week stint

It looks like we have officially left the era of Sheen.

FX's sitcom Anger Management, which premiered last year, was heralded as a return to form for the star, who was then the center of a media firestorm surrounded his perceived "meltdown." Sheen channeled his very public persona into the rather conventional sitcom, which premiered to strong numbers for FX (5.4 million!). The network subsequently picked up the series for a further 90(!) episodes, airing at a rate of 45 per year.

But now the ratings have declined to under a million viewers per episode, and FX is starting to worry. In an effort to attract the series better viewership, they're sending the series to its sister network, FOX, to see if a broader audience can't be attracted to the series.

For four weeks, beginning Monday, June 3, new episodes of Anger Management will air in the 9:30 p.m. timeslot, replacing repeats of The Mindy Project. Two of these new episodes will be airing for the first time.

It did seem rather risky for FX to gamble so many episodes on such a ephemeral cultural obsession, and it's not surprising that the viewers have fled now that Sheen appears to be back to (relative) normal.

What do you think? Do you watch Anger Management? Will you be watching it on FOX?

Anger Management's next episode, "Charlie Breaks Up with Kate," airs Thursday, May 30 on FX. "Charlie & His New Therapist" will kick off the show's FOX run on June 3.

Probably because Anger Management is awful

It was nice in the beginning but then you understand that there is no plot going on and each episode is basically just like the previous one.

Whilst not too high on my to view list, I still watch it, better than 2 1/2 men these days.

Yeah because of Charlie Sheen probably

I have to disagree, I really like 2 1/2 men. I think it's great even without him.

Anger Management is a formulaic and clich?d sitcom but it's well-executed and entertaining to watch. It's not laugh-out-loud funny but few comedies are. As for viewing figures, FX is still a niche channel and expecting multi-million viewing figures was always going to be a push - even a popular show like Dexter only manages around 2 million viewers.

Personally I think they should have a revolving cast for the therapy group and make more use of the support cast, particularly Charlie's daughter, his ex-wife and neighbour (Carter from Spin City). They definitely need to ditch the prison scenes, as they drag the series down. Martin Sheen has had his moments but he's a bit too over-the-top - he's not being properly utilised.

It's over shown. They need to cut back on the number of episodes shown a year.
