Marisa Ramirez is getting a promotion.

The actress, who was featured during a recurring arc during the last season (the show's third) of CBS' Blue Bloods, has been promoted to series regular. She will be replacing Jennifer Esposito.

Ramirez plays Detective Maria Baez, who now will become the full-time partner for Donnie Wahlberg's Detective Danny Reagan.

CBS tried out three different female lead opposite Wahlberg last season. Megan Keth and Megan Boone were the other two, as the respectively appeared in four and three episodes.

?It all still feels a bit surreal," the actress said. "From the first day, everyone was so welcoming. Working with Donnie and the cast and crew of Blue Bloods can spoil a girl. Total pros, each and every one, and all so supportive. I just enjoyed every minute. Truly, I never dreamed I would be coming back as a regular. To say I am grateful is an understatement.?

Esposito left the program after being put on medical leave for Celiac disease. She has opened her own gluten-free bakery in New York City to help others who suffer from the disease.

Ramirez has also appeared on Body of Proof, Spartacus and The Young and the Restless.

Blue Bloods returns this Fall to CBS on Friday nights.
