Why are GameCube's so bad?

Recommended Posts

I dont have a gamecube, but I am about to get one. Why is it that no one wants to buy a gamecube??? I was reading the latest story in gamers news and saw how much theyve lost. I dont know about you guys, but the games that i have seen advertised on tv look like they are pretty nice. The biggest complaint i have heard about them is that they dont play dvd's. Who cares about that? most people already have either an xbox, ps2, or a regular dvd player. Why does the gamecube need to play them too? U guys give me some input...

a lot of people consider the gamecube to be a "kiddy" system because there are more titles rated E and theres not as much blood and gore in games. i have a gamecube though, and i love it. the controller is great, the game selection and graphics and the package in general are all very nice. as for dvds? i dont see where thats a big deal, thats what they make dvd players for. and for $99, the gamecube is a great buy.

i think gamecube is great and so do alot of my friends

some people have an inferiority complex and think by somehow owning one it would make them less cool or kiddy or gay or whatever you want to say

oh well its there loss

well good there are people out there that like it! i do understand what you are saying about kiddie games though. Some games do appear to be for smaller kids. However, like i said i have seen some pretty cool games being advertised for it. And 99 dollars? thats too much! im getting mine from ebay! :)

Though I like my Gamecube and some of the joy it has brought me (namely Zelda and Metriod), I cannot ignore the fact that Nintendo is still stuck in the past about the way they market their system/games. Hopefully, they won't be as stubborn with Gamecube's succesor. If it wasn't for their first party classic games, then, at least for me, there would be absolutely no reason to own it. If you must absolutely play Zelda or Metriod (like I did), then its worth $99. Other than that, I find it very hard to recommend the system.

Biggest complaint that it doesn't play DVDs? Never heard that to be honest. You're better off with a standalone than relying on any of the systems to be your dvd player. I tried it for a couple of months with my PS2 and wasn't the greatest of experiences.

Personally, I don't care if a game is cell shaded, looks kiddy or whatever... it's the gameplay that counts. I'm too old anyway to care if my choice of console is cool or not ;) Ofcourse, Sony took a huge lead when the original playstation became popular... they pumped out truckloads of games, and ultimately it's the quantity that matters when parents buy consoles to their kids.

I've lost count of how many times I've overheard salesmen telling customers that "you should buy playstation for your kid... it got more games", and they leave the store with a PS without even having looked at the nintendo or xbox.

The gamecube meets all my gaming needs.

I love all the games I have (With the exception of Luigi's mansion which was wack).

I have:

Zelda - Windwalker - (which is amazing)

Mario Sunshine - (which took me a while to get into, but is really good)

F-Zero GX - (Which is damn fast and fun)

Soul Calibre III - (Best beat 'em up I have ever played)

Super Smash Bro's Mele - (Hmm, this might be the best beat em up actually...not sure)

Starfox/Lylat wars/whatever its called - (Which I enjoyed and is graphically sublime)

Plus the aforementioned Luigi game.

I say go for it: GC's are great (Y)

very nicely put! i hate people that are so completely obsessed with a games graphics that they cant appreciate the gameplay. For instance, i have been verbally abused many times by lots of my friends for playing counter-strike. They cant get past the fact that the graphics arent so intense they are about to blow up your computer... yet counter-strike, (to me) is one of the best multi-player games ever.

I also tried playing dvd's on my playstation, and it just ended up frustrating me. I ended up accidently setting up a parental password, and had to enter it everytime i put a dvd in. I have seen a lot of games advertised for gamecube that werent kiddy games, and u guys all seem to like yours so i guess i will just go ahead and buy one...

Although your spellin' needs some work, I agree completely. The GC is awesome... I'd recommend it to anyone. (Y)

huh? the GC's graphics are way better than the PoS2

as for the original question of why are they bad? They're not. GC was my first of the current generation consoles, and it flat out rocks. No need to name game titles, just look at farsight's post. (Y)

this is kinda going against what ive heard... if everyone likes gc so much, why is it that nintendo has lost so much money on them? They have some kickass games from what i can see, and everyone (at least in here lol) seems to like them.... the world may never know.. :D

i wasnt neccesarily talking about the GC graphics, im just talking about graphics for games in general, and that the graphics dont have to be good for the game to be good.

people who don't like the gamecube because it has mario sunshine or whatever are idiots.

if you were a business, who would you be trying to appeal to?

the largest portion of your userbase, right?

and guess what, teenagers who like blood and guts come in a distant second to little kids.

think about it, we have school and homework... remember elementary school? there was a lot more free time back then.

Well, I dunno about that. Nintendo has always had the best marketing campaign (at least in my area), and has always been the lowest priced console. They just don't have as wide a variety of games, but that's only been a problem for the cube (I would say), although some people would argue the N64 as well. I thought the N64 had enough games, but most of them weren't very good.

Buddy you got your numbers wrong cause if you see sales, blood and guts does sell. If not, Gamecube would be at the front of the line. We all know that it isnt the case. The fact is that Nintendo is having a hard time broadening itself. It seems to think that their core audience in the past can still generate the same amount of profits that the previous systems did. They are wrong.

Take away their cash cow gameboy and I guaranttee you will see a 180 in their perspective

I do find it odd that the Gamecube isn't really selling.

I hear nothing but good things off every person I know that owns one.. and if I was in the market to buy a console, i'd definately be looking at the Gamecube :)
