A ?Wire? alum has signed on for a Showtime drama pilot.

Dominic West, after lengthy negotiations, will play the male lead in ?The Affair.?

The drama explores two marriages and the affair that disturbs them, and looks at the effects it has on both couplings.

Noah (played by West) is a good husband, New York City high school teacher and devoted father of four whose world is rocked to its foundation when he meets who he thinks is his soul mate.

Playwright and writer/producer Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi (?In Treatment?) co-created ?The Affair.? Treem and Levi exec produce alongside Mark Mylod (?Once Upon a Time?), who also directs.

The hour-long relationship drama is told separately from both the male and female perspective.

West, a Golden Globe nominee and Screen Actors Guild Award winner, has also appeared in ?The Hour,? ?Chicago,? ?300,? ?Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace,? ?A Midsummer Night?s Dream? and ?Mona Lisa Smile.? The British actor also appears on pop duo Rizzle Kicks' new album.

Treem is a producer and writer for ?House of Cards? and ?In Treatment.?

West is represented by WME. He received multiple offers this past pilot season.
