The daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and a former "Mad Man" have been added to the cast of Damon Lindelof's post-Rapture HBO drama pilot The Leftovers.

Marking her first foray into television, Liv Tyler has landed the female lead opposite Justin Theroux. Best known for her feature film work in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and 2008's The Incredible Hulk, Tyler will play a young woman named Meg who is engaged to be married. Needing an escape, Meg finds herself targeted for recruitment by the members of a mysterious cult.

Michael Gaston, last seen in a recurring role as Burt Peterson on AMC's Mad Men, will portray Dean, a man who has adapted to the changes in the post-Rapture world and deals with it directly, often in a violent manner. Gaston has appeared in a variety of TV series over his career, most recently including The Mentalist, Last Resort, and Damages.

Co-written by Lindelof and Tom Perrotta and based on Perrotta's book, The Leftovers focuses on the people who "didn't make the cut" and were left behind following the Rapture. The talented cast also includes Justin Theroux, Christopher Eccleston, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, and Amanda Warren. Battleship director Peter Berg will helm the pilot.

If this project can inject a dose of satire into the post-apocalyptic setting, The Leftovers could be something special.
