It's Showtime for John Legend, but his next endeavor will find him singing a different tune: comedy.

Premium cable network Showtime has given the greenlight for Legend and his Get Lifted production arm to develop a half hour comedy series. The new single-camera series revolves around the tumultuous lives of high-profile music managers.

The deal is part of Legend's overall production deal between his Get Lifted Film Co and Universal Cable Productions. Showtime and Legend have worked together in the past, with the singer performing at the network's pre-Emmy party, also teaming on a music documentary special. Austin Winsberg ("Gossip Girl," "Jake In Progress") is set to script the pilot, executive producing alongside Legend and, appropriately enough, Legend's manager Troy Carter.

In addition to managing Legend's flourishing music career, Carter also steers the ship for pop superstar Lady Gaga through his management and entrepreneurial company Atom Factory. Clearly both singer and manager will have some unique insight to lend to the series, as well as perhaps some storylines inspired by actual events.

Comedy has been one of Showtime's strong suits as the untitled series, if it were picked up, would join acclaimed series "House of Lies," "Nurse Jackie," "Californication," and "Episodes."
