orphic
Shut down, reboot, press F8 over and over before windows starts the boot logo process. Then select a boot option from the list (this might help you go back to a previous successful boot) If it doesnt work, go to www.laughnonstop.com and go over the entire site and recommend it to your friends, give feedback to staff, etc...Then go back to your box, turn off the power, then get a yellow post-it and write DO NOT INSTALL SHELL MODIFIERS UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE ENTIRE SPECS AND MANUAL...Then insert your Win XP CD and repair your windows. You do not need to reformat... Also, just try and find a way to roll back to a diff date, try all kinds of things like that, toy with it...You'll get it, I remember back in my Win98er days when I installed the beta version of LS, even made a r33r0r theme, then it got old and i wanted windows back, and it pulled that same **** on me....Sh1t happens, RTFM (read the f*cking manual), learn, execute steps necessary, sit back and enjoy a cold molson while watching Richard Simmons sweating to the oldies tapes. You know, those tapes are actually really funny to watch when youre with a buncha people and you've been drinking a bit too much. :p
Binary
If your using XP pro launch gpedit.msc from a run box, the option to choose your shell is in there :) gpedit.msc - user configuration - administrative templates - system - custom user interface, then you can edit it :)

stokd
I had the same problem in Litestep and eventually got it fixed but then my comp was ******. When I clicked on a folder or My computer or Control Panel, you had to wait at least 30 seconds for the window to open. That was when I had Win2k. I will never use Litestep again. I want to try using a different shell with that tip from Binary in gpedit.msc where you can change it from there. Anyone know of a place where I can experiment with this? Has anyone tried that thing in XP and does it still work perfect like before you did the shell change from gpedit?
whack
it's in the docs it's a registry entry and it's different if you installed litestep system wide or just for a given account my advice is if you want to use litestep in the future only install it on a per account basis and start with an account you have set up just to get it up and running and all the kinks worked out BTW it works great under XP the only hitch is one of the modules makes a CPU call that XP doesn't like you can fix this by editing out the calls in the step.rc for any given theme so they no longer make a call to monitor the CPU it works like a charm and here's where having it set for an individual account works best if it fu*ks up log off that account and go to a regular account and fix it from there no problem when you want to uninstall it you can either remove your litestep accounts or go and look up from a regular account what the registry string is

whack
And if you don't fell like reading the manual here's instructions from the manual on how to uninstall it as the shell: Uninstalling LiteStep from Windows 2000 The most common problem that happens during a LiteStep uninstall on a Windows 2000 machine is that most of the time users don't have administrative privileges on their. However, if you do have administrative rights on your machine you will need to modify a few registry entries to get LiteStep uninstalled. So lets fire up regedit and get started on making your LiteStep headache go away. First find the key: HKey_Local_MachineSoftwareWindows NTCurrentVersionIniFileMappingsystem.iniboot>SYS:SoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon and change this to USR:SoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon HKey_Current_UserSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon>Shell and change the value of Shell to c:winntexplorer.exe to put Explorer back in as your shell. HKey_Current_UserSoftwareMicrosoftWindows>BrowseNewProcess - Make sure that this DWORD is set to "no" so that explorer loads properly. This key effected LiteStep if you were using Internet Explorer 4 and up, if you have an earlier version of Internet Explorer, use a STRING named DesktopProcess, with a value of "0" instead of the DWORD. Basically you need this set to no if you want to have explorer setting itself as shell everytime you access it.
