The time machine; Star Trek shuttlecraft is lovingly restored to its former 1960s glory

Preparing to boldly go where no Star Trek prop has gone before, a lovingly restored spaceship from TV's original 'Star Trek' series is ready to meet its final frontier - in Houston.

Following nine-months of careful work by die-hard Trekkers, the Galileo shuttlecraft prop from the iconic 1960s science fiction series is moving at impulse speed for NASA's Johnson Space Center - where it will become a museum piece.

Publicly unveiled on June 22nd to loud cheers from 350 fellow fans and friends at Master Shipwrights in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, the life-size prop was purchased at auction for $68,000 by superfan Adam Schneider.

'This is amazing,' said the sci-fi enthusiast as the beautifully and accurately restored craft made its debut.

'Despite spending 50 years basically outdoors, for a prop built to last a year or two, she's ready for her next journey.'

considering this is a prop with nothing working on the inside (most likely not even a dashboard), 68k is freaking expensive.

That's a bargain. The production models of Enterprise A went for $250,000, and the Enterprise D for $576,000. Reliant: $50,000, and Excelsior $110,000. Klingon Bird of Prey: $260,000. Enterprise E and Voyager both went for $132,000.

Wow.. With that money you can travel to space !

:D

But only for a very short time.  It takes millions just to visit the space station iirc.    Let me know when they have hotels on the moon and you can visit for a good price and I'll book my ticket right away.
