China has a time travel tunnel. Did you know that?

Some locals of GuiZhou Province, China claim that a 400-meter-long tunnel can distort time. Those who drive through the tunnel, located in Zunyi City?s Honghuagang District, find the time on their cell phones ? and only their cell phones ? inexplicably reversed by exactly one hour.

The tunnel was built years ago, but locals have only encountered its strange time travel side effects in the past year or so. Some think it?s caused by a distortion of the magnetic field. Others think it?s just simple interference or a problem with the cell towers. But that?s no fun, so many have started calling it China?s ?time tunnel.?

Anyway, here?s how it goes:

Enter the tunnel at 7:00 am and exit a mere five minutes later at 7:05 am. But when you exit the other side of the tunnel, your cell phone will read 6:05 am, one hour earlier. One hour lost. The phone will correct itself after a while, say a mile out of the tunnel, when it syncs back up to the actual time.

Since November 2012, reporters from the Chinese news outlet Gui Yang Evening News have apparently tested out China?s time travel tunnel on multiple occasions, using their own cell phones. They?ve found that the time reversal occurs 80% of the time. Tests from telecom operators haven?t detected anything abnormal, though.

Could this be nothing more than simple interference? A problematic cell tower? Maybe, maybe. Probably.

Boringly probably.

Or perhaps China?s Time Travel Tunnel contains a warp in space-time, where the boundaries of the universe curl into themselves, allowing the cell phones ? and only the cell phones ? of unsuspecting commuters to briefly travel one hour into the past.

Maybe the reason why China has so many of the worlds longest living people is not so much because they're old, but because they spend so long stuck in traffic driving through magic time travel space tunnels.

So, why only cell phones? Digital watches don't suffer anything? What could possibly affect cell phones?

maybe because cell phones got they time from a ntp server and in a tunnel that long the cell signal will break, reversing the time to the default installed (in this case, minus 1 hour)?

Why would a NTP server desync and pull back -1H ?

A magnetic anomaly would cause issues, but why a specific issue that is always the same? It doesn't make much sense.

 

It's possible to exist a NTP server inside the tunnel which does that, but does that happen to all mobile phones? Do they GSM signal inside?

 

So many questions, is it the ALIENS? :D

maybe the tunnel has it's own cells that are off by one hour. After leaving the tunnel you go back to the signal of one of the cell towers nearby and are resynced to the correct time

by default a cell phone (or a computer) has a time set by a zone (GMT, for example); when it syncs with a NTP server it adjusts that time but if it looses that sync it defaults to the time it was configured; in this case the cell phones are configured by default with a different time zone; while going in that tunnel it looses the sync with the NTP server and defaults to the time zone it was factory configured.

Whenever something loses connectivity to an NTP server, it just moves slower and slower out of sync, it doesn't revert back to any predetermined default. You have any idea how many things would go complete apeshit if they suddenly reverted to a "default" time?

 

And in this case, going from 7:05 AM to 6:05 AM isn't losing an hour...it's technically gaining an hour.

funny, my android tablet has is time sync via Internet; if it doesn't have Internet connectivity it defaults to the time i set it (since i live in a zone with daylight saving time, or DST, it can go back 1 hour or go forward 1 hour).

i think its engineered by the time lords as a joke, as you go through the tunnel they rip 1 hour out of your life, holy crap thats how there able to give time lords 9 regenerations, the life force of millions/billions of ppl 1 hour at a time could be used to add on to there lives, multiply that by all the ppl living on other planets and youve got a constant source of regen cycles. now thats amazing and chinks have partially discovered the reason :P:P:P
