Recommended Posts

Okay - I installed the new Audugy drivers, and also Acrobat 4. upon reboot, I get a blue screen with this message;

STOP: c000021a {fatal system error}

The Session Manager Initalization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xcooooo22 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

The system has been shut down.

I tried to reboot in safe mode and had the same error

I tried to repair the XP installation through the boot disk.

Can anyone guide me to get me system bacK? I do not mind reinstalling but I do not want to lose my settings / registry / outlook email

Thank you in advance for any help!!!

i would first try and uninstall anything else that is you recently installed. If that doesnt work, i would go ahead and try a repair install of windows XP, <--- thats what tech support will tell you. (thats what they told me and it cured my problems.)

I tried the repair, but got the same error. I know it is the PostScript driver for acrobat 4. I need to know how to disable this driver from the recovery console. - any takers?

Acrobat 4.0 is so old.. why bother trying it on XP? I just don't understand some people... sorry to be rude... but if you want to be careful not letting your XP act weird is to use the up-to-date software... geshhhh...

If I were yelling at anybody it would be Adobe or Microsoft.

Seriously, how does it happen that installing the next-to-latest version of some software makes an entire system unusable?

Stupid programmers.

Printer drivers don't usually install as system drivers which you disable at the recovery console. Part of the problem in the PS driver install (of older software) is probably that Windows 2000/XP uses its own ATM manager, not the Adobe versions. This is really what you probably overwrote and this is probably the problem. You need to find the driver or service for Adobe Type Manager, NOT ATMarpc or ATMelan (which maybe ok to disble if you don't have an internal ATM or DSL card in your PC).

What is the name of the driver? Is it actually a Service or a system driver?

If you can get into safe mode, then disable or unistall misbehaving services, system settings etc from there.

To disable system drivers in console mode, type help when in console mode. Look at all the commands available. Listsvc

You must know the name of the system driver to disable it.

disable

Additionally, you can set a driver to any of 5 different startup options:

SERVICE_DISABLED

SERVICE_BOOT_START

SERVICE_SYSTEM_START

SERVICE_AUTO_START

SERVICE_DEMAND_START

Demand start is like the Manual option in Services (Auto, manual, disabled). Services are different from drivers, although all the above actually uses the name SERVICE_*, they are all System Drivers, not Services.

As for your original settings? Copy them to a safe partion (one you won't format and one that is not a DYNAMIC partition - it must be a BASIC disk partition.) I would also recommend using the BACKUP utility in 2000/XP before you reinstall. Backup your %userprofile% directory. Then you can reinstall your OS on the primary partion. Either restore your previous settings from the previous BACKUP (2000 or XP) or use the File and settings transfer wizard (XP only) to import/restore your previous settings.

I agree completely . . .

Here's my suggestion. Try using the Recovery Console to delete files related to Acrobat. 1st the program directory then look over C:WINDOWS and C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32 for any files that appear to be related to Adobe. Also if anyone knows where those printer drivers would be located delete it too. Normally its not good to kill program files without uninstalling but what do you have to lose at this point?

I had a similar problem yesterday. After I visited the M$ update site, it suggested 3 dirver updates - Promise SCSI/RAID, Realtek NIC and Creative Technology Sound. I d/l all 3, and then after re-booting I got a BSOD.

I couldn't use safe mode, becasue I got another BSOD:dead:

BUT, I tried the last known good option, and got back into XP OK.

After another re-boot, I got BSOD, and now cannot get back into XP:ermm:

Last known Good does not work anymore, neither does safe mode. Why Not?

I tried booting from my XP disk, and tried a Repair, and this has not worked either.

I think it must be the Promise driver which has screwed up this. Is there a wasy I can delete/amend something in the Recovery Console, so that I can fool XP into getting me in via Safe Mode?

I Just want to recover my .pst file and other docs - I don't mind a re-format eventally (if needed):s

My specs:-

AMD 1.4

IBM Deskstar 40GB

IBM Deskstar 75GB

Gigabyte 7DXR (RAID)

756Mb PC2100 DDR

Prophet GeForce2 64Mb

I use the 40GB Deskstar with the built in RAID controler, together with a Promise driver from Win 2000 (supplied with the mobo).

The 75GB Deskstar is for storage of my MP3 collection & MPEGS:cool:

I re-installed XP on a spare Maxtor HD and tried to retrive my files, but found access was denied (I use the password option on Login).

Any suggestions on how I can retrieve my data? Is a full re-install rather than a repair going to work? Any help/tips is greatly appreciated

Cheers:D

I should have said earlier that the BSOD error message is

BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

***STOP: 0x00000074 (0x00000003,0x00000002,0x8008700,0xc000014c)

I'm also using NTFS. I think that means if I re-install over my XP Pro, I won't be able to ever get into my Documents ? :(

Please somebody help!!:hurt:

To get at your documents on Windows XP after moving the hard drive, or installing a 2nd HD and booting from it:

1. Open My Computer (logged in as an Admin)

2. Go to Tools, Folder Options, View tab

3. Uncheck "Use simple file sharing"

4. Click OK

5. Right click the folder that contains your files

6. Go to the security tab

7. Click Advanced

8. Go to the Owner tab

9. Click Administrators and check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.

10. Click OK twice, and your set.

:D

EDIT: What this does is changes the owner of the files to the administrator on the new XP install. This needs to be done because each user name is given a Security ID number that is different with each install of XP. Since the file's security settings did not list the new administrator's ID number as having access to the file, you got an "Access Denied" message. But as an Administrator you have the privilage to give yourself access, as long as the file was not encrypted. Hope that explains well enough ;)
