12-year-old boy arrested after bank break-in

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- Police say a 12-year-old boy is in custody accused of breaking into a Southfield bank overnight.

Police tell FOX 2 the Oak Park boy used his bicycle to break through the glass entrance of the Bank of America branch along Greenfield Road near 10 Mile around 3 a.m. Friday.

Surveillance video shows the boy stacking rolls of coins and rifling through teller drawers in search of cash.

Police arrived on scene to find the boy still inside the branch.

He was taken into custody and police contacted his mother.

Bank of America representative Diane Wagner released the following statement: "We have security measures in place and take any attempted burglary to our banking centers seriously. This is an unfortunate incident and we are cooperating with local law enforcement."

The boy remains at the Southfield police department Friday morning.

a bank near me left the front entrance open, all the doors, the door to the safe was open aswell and no employees were there because it was the weekend. it was open, unlocked all night untill a old man went in in the morning for his pension and reported it. you'd be surprised just how many banks are left open by forgetful workers or contractors who are working in the branch.

If a 12 yo boy can break into your bank you seriously have to review your security measures.
