SyFy has ordered a Sharknado sequel; this time flying sharks attack Manhattan. It will premiere on the network in 2014. The network is holding a Twitter contest to name the movie. Tweet your submissions to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado.

?Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm ? on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel,? the NBCU-owned network?s evp programming Thomas Vitale gushed in today?s announcement.

The original orgy of bad special effects and even worse acting had triggered a social media feeding frenzy among journalists and celebrities when it premiered last week. Word got out the network was mulling a sequel, but that was before Nielsen reported the movie was actually watched by average of 1.369 million people, which is nothing to dance about.

In case you were one of the 312 million or so people in the country who did not watch, Sharknado, in round numbers, went like this: the ecological nightmare caused by global warming triggers a freak weather system that results in a mega tornado choc-a-block with angry sharks who sail through the air attacking innocent children and blondes, and causing to be uttered such lines as ?they took my grandfather, so I really hate sharks.? The movie culminated in a mano-a-sharko scene, in which our hero Ian Ziering was swallowed by a flying shark but, happily, he had his chainsaw with him at the time; he sawed his way out, also rescuing the distressed damsel who?d earlier been consumed whole by same shark.

Why would a sequel/prequel be needed?  Tornado sucks up sharks and sends them over Manhattan.  Not much you can do after that.  Would the prequel cover what caused the tornado and how it planned to pull up the sharks?  Some times you just need to claim victory, call it a day, and go home. This is what happens when Twitter trends program TV channels.

Wow, even with crappy Syfy movies they can't stop with the constant sequels. I'm telling you, pretty soon we're going to dwindle down to just ONE movie that they just make sequels of constantly. The movie industry has absolutely no originality anymore.

That said, I didn't see Sharknado and still want to.

Plenty of other cities along the coast lines they can target.  Stick with the formula they think worked and apply to the next city.

It appears that yet another prediction made by Idiocracy is coming true.

How long before they start filming "Ass"?

:(

"Ass: The Journey into to abyss"?  already filming it in the San Fernando valley...
