GameCube Wavebird Controllers

Recommended Posts

I've heard everyone talking about Wavebird controllers for the gamecube, but no one has said why they are so good... What do they do that is so much different than a regular controller? Are they worth the money?

consider these situations..

if for you,

1) wireless>rumble ... then get a wavebird

2) rumble>wireless ... then don't get a wavebird

thats really the deciding factors lol

ok yea but heres the problem ive had with wireless controllers...

i dont know about you guys, but when im playing a game i always hold the controller with the front of it more aiming up in the air, not aimed right at the console. Everytime ive played with a wireless controller, you have to point the controller directly at the system, which was always very annoying to me.

With this controller, do you have to aim it directly at the system?

My friends have them, and I've read a review, and it's my understanding that it doesn't matter how you point it at all, and you could play from the outside parking lot if you wanted to. It works on technology similar to a cordless phone, IIRC.

No, it works in any direction, you can aim it in the air, away from the system, in another room, under some blankets, whatever.

They use the 900mhz Frequency, so the signal goes through most objects well :p

no you don't. its not like a TV remote that uses Infra-Red. It uses Radio Frequency, so you could be in another room controlling the game if you wanted to. no worries there

I went on my balcony and looked through the window and played Mario. :D

Seriously, IGN tested their controller to 90' (feet). Nintendo just says 20' to give themselves a guarantee.

Wavebirds are fantastic as long as there is no major amounts of rumbling required, but, at least seeing as they're HARDWARE only, they'll work globally - I know this since I bought mine while out in Japan and brought it back with me to the UK. Saved half the money I'd have spent here!! Also quite like the Turqoise controllers out there, which I can't find here, should really have bought one, but was bothered about packing it in my bag.

The wavebird is an excellent controller, easily the best I've used. Great build quality, battery life, and it's cheap! (compared to other wireless controllers)

It doesn't have rumble, but that's not really a big issue, as gamecube games only have one degree of vibration anyway, and it's not used that much/to great effect anyway.

It's light too, it actually seems lighter than the gamecube controller (due to the lack of a motor I guess)

Wireless works flawlessley, huge range on it, and no lag! I was worried about using it for games like Ikaruga, and Super Monkey Ball, but it's fine to use with them!

Yup, no lag even in F-Zero GX! :D
