Comic actor and writer Mel Smith has died of a heart attack, aged 60, his agent has confirmed.

The British comedian - known for his work on sketch shows Alas Smith and Jones and Not The Nine O'clock News - died at his home on Friday.

He was born in west London in 1952.

Aww, one from my childhood there, fond memories. RIP Mel!


60 years old, he was born in 1962? l

BBC have corrected the error. It was 1952.

Another great comedian and actor gone... RIP

I remember him from when I was at school... along, long, time ago... in Alas Smith & Jones.
