Watching local MLB team

Recommended Posts

A close friend's brother is hospitalized, likely the rest of his life, and is quite unhappy that he can't watch his local team, the Rockies. His hospital has only basic cable, and not the local sports channel carrying the team. They will not allow him to get a higher tier of service, so he cannot get the local coverage. MLB.TV only allows out of market games, so he is blocked with the local team.

We're not looking for a sneaky back door, but wondering if there is a legitimate way for someone with special circumstances to be able to get to watch his hometown games? Any suggestions are welcome. This is going to be a long-term situation and he is very disappointed.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. I've contacted MLB.TV and the Rockies themselves, but am also looking for other ideas.

Many thanks, Neowinners!

Thanks- we're trying to play it straight. He has some mental health issues (bipolar) and loves his baseball team. I'm hoping there is a straight-down-the-middle way of getting the games to him. If not, he may have to be happy with games that are completed.

does your local cable/sat/fiber provider have streaming access of live tv or do they have mobile tv for phones/tablets with access to sports channels?

do they broadcast the games on local channels that can be picked up over the air?

He's in Colorado Springs, and in a nursing home (a hospital really- not to be confused with a home for elderly people.) I don't know for sure what is provided. His sister, who is the friend I am helping, is looking into the details there, but I know cable, per se, is out. That said, your reference to local cable gives me another avenue!

Have you contacted the cable company? Since this is a very specific situation, they might be willing to help you out.

Does he have to watch? I'm sure you could get the game broadcast on the radio. The radio announcers around here are better than the TV announcers, so it's never bothered me much.

Otherwise, VPN + MLB.TV is the only half-legitimate way to do it.
