Amanda Bynes shows signs of schizophrenia

Such a shame. Her Nikelodeon kids show was quite entertaining and it looked like she had a future as a comedienne, and she was entertaining in supporting roles in a few films, but in her 20's the wheels came off and her behavior became increasingly bizarre. That would be explained by a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Amanda Bynes: Sources cite schizophrenia, experts seek 2-week extension

Medical professionals evaluating Amanda Bynes will seek a two-week extension on her 5150 psychiatric hold so they can properly diagnose her, citing signs of schizophrenia, sources close to the family told TMZ.

According to the gossip site?s report, ever since the troubled actress was taken into custody Monday night, people close to her are convinced she?s suffering from a mental illness.

Miss Bynes was hospitalized and placed on a 5150 involuntary hold for mental evaluation in California, after she allegedly lit a makeshift bomb in an elderly woman?s driveway.

The sheriff?s department then was called by a man who later told reporters that he found the actress lying down near the driveway with her left pant leg on fire. He said she quickly put out the flames and didn?t appear injured, but she said told him her dog had been burned, TMZ reported.

Surveillance footage from a nearby liquor store show Miss Bynes enter with her small Pomeranian that the manager said reeked of gasoline. She rushed to the back of the store to try and wash the dog off in the sink, but ?freaked out? and left when the owner confronted her.

?Amanda?s parents will now ask a judge to put the 27-year-old in a conservatorship, a la Britney Spears, because they believe she is unable to care for herself and could be a danger to others,? TMZ reported.

I would imagine most celebrities are a little bit crazy.  The paparazzi hound them to no end and it's absolutely ridiculous.  I'm surprised more paparazzi people don't get punched in the face by annoyed celebrities.  I saw a video once of Britney Spears driving home from the grocery store, she stopped at a red light, and like 10 people ran out of the bushes, as if they'd been waiting there because they knew she'd be by, and they stood around and in front of her car taking pictures and she finally kind of had to nudge them out of the way when the light turned green.

There's a bit of that which comes with being a legally "Public Person", but after what happed to Princess Diana and others once a clear linw was crossed I'd be flattening noses - especially if they pulled it around my kids. It wouldn't be pretty.

Amanda Bynes is at the right age for schizophrenia to start up which is mid twenties. James Holmes is around the same age and he definetely has schizophrenia. I watched Amanda Bynes on nickolodean back then.

She used to be so adorable and charismatic. It's really a shame to see people go downhill like this. Hopefully they can find the right combination of medication to help her at least be content with her life.

It is a shame but it seems to happen quite frequently in Hollywood where they use these adorable kids and when they are no longer useful (get too old to be adorable) they dump them. Many of them have no normal base to cling to, because Hollywood and stardom is all they've ever known. It's no wonder they loose it.

Self-medication with drugs or alcohol is common among schizophrenics. VERY common.

yea, sad too, it usually turns a small crack in the mind turn into a huge problem.

but now that they kind of know what the problem is, hopefully they can get it under control

Why is it every girl that was about the same age as me and hot has gone crazy? We need some better quality!

Even if she does schizophrenics have a nasty habit of going off their meds because normal doesn't feel normal to them OR, once they feel better they think it's like a cold of the flu - "I'M CURED!!" Uhhhh...no.

I would argue that if a celebity isn't performing on a public stage or promoting a work they star in, then they should be entitled to their privacy. Sadly, no one else seems to get this.

^^ I agree completely. I've seen paparazzi at "work" in out of context places and and would be tempted massage their faces with a cheese grater.

I feel bad for her. Does anyone else here think that our environment has a hand in our mental stability? (Stress, other hardships). I hope she can get the help she needs and she'll be an even better person afterwards.

  • 3 weeks later...

News today is that her committal has been extended at least another 30 days.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/09/showbiz/celebrity-news-gossip/amanda-bynes-mom-temporary-conservator/index.html?c=showbiz

(CNN) - Amanda Bynes is going to remain under medical care as legal control over her person and estate is temporarily handed to her mother, Lynn.

Bynes, 27, was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold in late July after she was "involved in a disturbance in a residential neighborhood" in Thousand Oaks, California. According to People magazine, the hold was initially for 72 hours, but on July 25, a judge ordered Bynes to be held for an additional two weeks.

At the same time, Bynes' parents, Rick and Lynn, filed for conservatorship of their daughter, who has been exhibiting increasingly bizarre behavior in recent months.

In a hearing Friday, Judge Glen Reiser with the Superior Court of California in Ventura County granted her parents' request for conservatorship, noting that Bynes is under a "continued ... hold in a psychiatric facility."

Bynes' mom, Lynn, now has the ability to decide her daughter's basic needs, including where she should reside. Additionally, People notes, she now has control over her daughter's estimated savings of $3 million, for the time being.

She's right at the age where females develop schizphhrenia without such risk factors, so blaming it specifically on cocaine may be a bit premature. We DO know, however, that she used marijuana (the water pipe incident) and in several studies it has been shown to increase the risk of schizophrenia by 4X.
