FilmEngine and Benderspink are teaming to reboot 2004?s ?The Butterfly Effect? with original writer-director Eric Bress on board to pen the new script.

Producers are A.J. Dix, Anthony Rhulen, Chris Bender and JC Spink, as they did on the original, along with Film Engine president Navid McIllhargey. No director is yet attached.

The original sci-fi thriller, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, was a solid performer for New Line with a worldwide box office of $96 million on a budget of $13 million along with a pair of direct-to-DVD sequels.

Bress and J. Mackeye Gruber co-directed and co-wrote the original. Kutcher portrayed a character who had the ability to travel back in time and change the present by changing what he had done in his past ? but found that changing several childhood traumas created unintended consequences.

not really sure why they would reboot it. The first one was pretty good the sequels were just horrible.

Yea I agree, I dunno why studios are rebooting movies that dont need to be rebooted. There are thousands of IPs in librarys that havent had a movie adaption yet, and could use one
One example is 'Rainbow Six' by Tom Clancy, and his other one 'Without Remorse' which details how John came to be. Those two books alone had me engrossed.

Anyway I think if they rebooted it, it would flop now at the cinema.

I like this movie a lot but it doesn't need a reboot.  The funny thing is, so it comes out and I buy the DVD.  So I throw the directors cut in there and we watch it.  The ending is like, total shock.  I just sat there being stunned but I still enjoyed the movie and went on with life.  After a couple of months, we watch it at my sisters house but she played the theatrical version with the normal ending.  2nd shocker, YOU MEAN THERE WERE TWO ENDINGS?  Anyway, it was funny at the time.

Hollywood has run out of ideas plain and simple. These reboots and un needed sequals are ruining the industry, time to start looking for me original talent.
