JaredVolkl
Here's my scenario. I've got Windows XP on my main hard drive, a 120GB. Then I partitioned off 5GB for Slackware 9.1 Installed it, and put the boot loader on a floppy. Booting is fine, I can boot to either with LILO on a floppy. My problem is that now when I boot to Slackware, my keyboard won't work at the login prompt. I can use it to review boot messages while they're scrolling (shift + page up), but as soon as it gets to the login prompt, it goes dead. I found a post on linuxquestions.org about someone having the same problem and disabling hotplugging. So I reinstalled and disabled hotplugging this time, but it still won't work. Any ideas? :(
JaredVolkl
I've got a little better idea of what's going on now. I've determined it's probably something to do with hotplugging support which is now in Slackware (since 9.1). I've got a USB MS Intellimouse Optical and a plain PS/2 keyboard. I think something about hotplugging and using my USB mouse is preventing me from loading the keyboard. Maybe it thinks because I'm using a USB mouse that I'm using a USB keyboard too. I really don't know, but there has to be someone else who is using Slack 9.1 with a USB mouse and a PS2 keyboard. Please help!
Tek
I had the same problem a while back, and I figured out it was because I had overclocked my processor too high. If you've overclocked yours, turn it down a bit and see what happens.
JaredVolkl
Figured it out. The slackware install disk asks you if you'd like to enable the gdm for console mouse support. Don't do it! After opting out of this option, everything was all good (after a little xf86config). So that was the answer.
